Financial Aid Decisions

SATI:1520
parent income: somewhere below $80k ($40?)
Scholarship: 19050 -J.Eckhouse / Trustee/est. Pell Grant (good but seems like I might have insufficient funds)
work: 4000
loan:5025
nyu calls the total $28075 award.

start searching for private/outside funds...

Has anyone else called to have their decision appealed? My mom called them, and a day later they said they would give me 2,500 more a year!

you can appeal financial aide? cuz NYU has SUCH bad ones! i got a 38k private grant from wellesley, on top of work study and what not, it comes down to 42k in aide. it covers all my tuitions, room and board, and even books and stuff. i cant believe NYU..... theres goes my chance of going to NYU

mail came today... STILL did not receive financial aide

my mom called too, but we haven't heard anything back yet...

xokandy.. at least u have a really good college to go to for free now..

haha it's funny.. that feeling of waiting for the mail...

kind of like april 2 - 4... wow crucial days... i hear the mail truck around the corner, i'm already crossing my fingers, holding my breath, praying for more than 10 minutes, that good news will arrive. and then it arrives. thin little envelopes. i got rejected from HYPS + Duke all on the same day... haha... yah... great eh? well i'm not complaining now, what happens happens... i still have little delussions and dreams that stanford wrote me another letter telling me they made a mistake. haha yeah eventually ill come out of denial. but now that the decision letter is done, im waiting agian, for financial aide. waiting for the mail has never been this exciting. i never cared for mail until now.

Those of you who recieved 20K+ of financial aid are really, really, REALLY, fortunate...at least to me. My parent's income is 50K and I only got 4000 for "academic earnings" (w/e that is) and then 5000 through loans, all totaling ~9,000. I don't know if it's even possible to afford, but for some reason my parents are still leaving NYU (Stern) as an option. Sux compared to the ~30K of aid from Carnegie-Mellon (I changed my mind about going there though). For all alumni, current students, and prospective students of Stern, is the eduacation REALLY worth it???

academic earnings = work study ... and i got the same loans & workstudy as you, but also got a merit scholarship [which a lot of people got], which has nothing to do with need, so that may be why they got a lot more aid than you

-katrina-

SunScorch... i would say yes, but 50k income means not a lot of squeeze room, and add in the cost of living and it will cost you about 40k+ to live there, including scholarships...so i would say investigate your other options.

i noticed from all the posts that most of you are getting 4000 in work study... which is twice the work study they usually assign elsewhere. NYU is sooo STINGY!

how is work study and loans suppose to count as "aide" when you can find a job else where by yourself and get loans by yourself too??? i can get better paying jobs like waitressing or something (my current job right now, $100/night in tips on fri. night) than what the school offers... for you to work in the library for low wage

is the gsp scholarship granted for all 4 years?

income= $30,000.
scholarship/grant= $13,000

so basically, my family should have -$1,000 to live on for the 4 years i attend college. WONDERFUL.

WOW. dont go to NYU! do you have any other options upsided? i do NOT plan on making my parents pay for all that tuition. my parents have about the same income since my mom doesn't work. i wonder if since im going to college for practically free, they will buy me all the stuff i want for college... im already compilling a list.

1) vaio notebook
2) clothes
3)...

its already saving them 160,000. 10,000 budget for college stuff is pretty low, right?

i'm so torn--- i got a $16000 package (actually $17000 with the extra 1000 they decided to give me), which leaves 28,000 for us to come up with on our own. the other schools i'm looking at are going to be 20k, b/c I got NO aid except for the stafford loan. i saw in NYU's financing alternatives there are student loans I can take out, which still leaves me hope, but I don't know.... what would you guys do? My dad has some $$ in savings and said if I went to PSU I'd leave virtually debt free, but if he covered the 20k and I took out the other 8 in student loans, that wouldn't be too bad, would it? i'm desperate- I've wanted NYU for wayyyy too long

8k a year in loans is nothing
