Financial Aid Difficulties for Middle Class Students

It’s actually pretty simple. If you can’t afford it, you can’t go there. You’ll need to find some affordable in-state schools instead. Bank accounts have a way of solving these dilemmas pretty quick.

We have been using net price estimators (some detailed, some quick) and have consistently been receiving the high numbers.

Did you always receive lower estimates from the calculators and the FASFA itself?

Thanks for the info about Rhodes and the merit as less competitive LACs. That is definitely something to consider.

As far as merit deadlines for LACs, do they typically use rolling admissions in determining admission and merit? And do your odds of merit increase with earlier application (say late September even if RD deadline in January)?

That is great to hear that there are excellent colleges elsewhere.

Could you name some specific schools your daughter looked at, including the publics, LACs, and the Canadian schools? It would be much appreciated.

Austin College in Sherman, TX should work. Excellent merit and great students.
