Financial Aid Disbursement, and Responses from Professors?

Anyone know when the financial aid will start to disperse?
I would like to start buying my books, especially all at once, but the aid hasn't come. I could purchase the books without the aid, but also, my professors haven't replied back to me in regards to the usages of certain textbook editions.

Which, is also a question of itself - I have emailed two of my professors and neither have responded. What's the issue?! Do you guys think it's necessary to purchase the newest edition textbook out there, if I already have the previous edition? I don't really feel like forking out an extra $50 for another textbook with small tweaks.

Lastly, have you guys already purchased all your books? Should I be getting onto that, then?
Thanks

I thought they gave it out like 1 or 2 months ago? There was a deadline that said you are supposed to accept the offer by Aug 19th.

Usually professors are really good at answering e-mails, so they’re probably on summer break or something. What class are you taking? It really depends. But generally, I would pick the textbook that the class is required to be using. I just feel more confident instead of wasting time trying to find out if I need to read a certain section or not. If something comes up on a test that you don’t know because you didn’t get the current textbook then you’re done.

I’ve purchased all my textbooks online already at sites like Amazon, eBay, etc. Sometimes you can find really good deals on used books from them.

I received the confirmation for the awards, but I have not actually received it. Have you?

Yeah, if you go to your “Financial Aid Status” page on MyUW, and click on “Award Details” it should say “accepted” under “status” for each academic quarter. That means you’re good.

Ah, thanks =)

I heard you get the money (if you did direct deposit) on the first day of class. Someone said they got it a few days earlier, but I wouldn’t count on it.

It sucks, getting housing (deposits, first/last, fees), books and what not has to be done weeks in advance!

My first year, I got my financial aid the second day of class. The next year it came sooner – it came the Friday before class. I don’t know if you always get your aid fairly late as a new student, or if it was just a coincidence for me. But yeah, don’t plan on getting your aid anytime soon. You always get it usually less than a week before school starts. If you are desperate, you can take a short term loan – https://sdb.admin.washington.edu/students/uwnetid/shorttermloan.asp</a> but it costs $30.

I am a little confused about your book question. Did you know that you can go to your MyUW page <a href=“UW NetID sign-in - Stale Request”>UW NetID sign-in - Stale Request; and click the link that says ‘Display Textbooks’? If you already know that and you are asking about the different editions, it might help if you check Rate My Professors . com – you might get some advice from other students regarding the exact edition that you need.
