So I know they say that it will release around the first week of class, but do you remember if you usually get your aid before the first day of class? Thanks....

Any one with any info on this?

I don’t have an answer, but there is a lot of activity on the Class of 2016 Facebook page. I’ll bet if you posted there, someone would answer. https://www.facebook.com/groups/170424256386332/

I found a posting on FB that said financial aid will be posted on the 22nd of August – next Wednesday.

Yeah if this is your first go at finanical aid, you should know that UT usually waits until the very last minute to send it out. That’s why you have to be careful if you have rent due at the end of the month and stuff like that - usually that’s why it’s good to live in student oriented housing because they know how financial aid goes.

Some financial aid was actually disbursed 8/20/2012 if you check your financial summary it will tell you when the fin aid was released.

Taken from their facebook page today:

Thanks! I have never clicked on the financial summary…my funds were applied yesterday, so I’m in that group that will be receiving the refund shortly. Thanks for the responses!

the rent is just too dang high!

soo… my grants released and that covers half of my tuition, but the loans have not been released? what is up with that? i completed my MPN back in may… so when do i get the leftover funds? attending ut austin is starting to become a non-stop hassle. i have had male war veteran friends in tears because they can’t get into a single class they need because they’re all full. i was told the “closed” classes would open up for us on registration day, yesterday, but they lied. then let’s top that off with the $12-18 i’ve had to pay per day to park for orientation. oh and then you need to pay $10 for your ID and between $160-607 for a decent parking permit… grr. nevermind you can pay for this stuff with anything BUT visa!

does ut austin release funds all at once for a student? or twice a semester?

This would be useful for me to know as well. An outside group sent a $1000 scholarship to UT for my son, but only $500 was credited to his account. Financial Aid had 40 people in line with two workers yesterday. Seems like a waste of time to wait 2 hours to answer a question in 30 seconds.

Make sure that you have completed the “Entrance Counseling.” I had the same issue. I thought the one time completion of the MPN was all I needed, but you have to finish the Entrance Counseling as well.

All at once. From what I understand, only a school that has a high default rate (a lot of students aren’t paying back their student loans once they graduate) are forced to release their funds in two payments during a semester.

That’s because half is used for the fall semester and half for spring. You’ll see another $500 applied to the spring tuition bill.

I was also in the financial aid office yesterday, along with many others, and there were at least 8 financial aid people working. Even though I had 40 people in front of me, I was called up in 45 minutes. Not bad considering yesterday was the day tuition was due or you get dropped.

@letsgoletsgo1: you are right. UT policy is to split the scholarship over two semesters, so my son will get $500 off the tuition bill next spring. Not sure where that was stated.

It probably wasn’t stated! The first time I had a scholarship, it freaked me out. I had my old CC financial aid office on speed dial It makes sense; a scholarship is for a full year, so they would need to split it, but when you aren’t expecting it, it’s confusing.
