Financial Aid Disbursment (NOT A Question)

For all of you guys waiting for financial aid, it'll be officially disbursed on Aug. 18 for the ones who applied in time and have everything completed (Entrance counseling, Master Promissory note, Parent plus loan apps., parent's promissory note, etc).

Financial aid office will deduct the tuition and fees & any debts you owe to the University on the 17th, and it takes 24-48 hours from there on to get the approval of their big boss before they can release anything to your bank.

Although the aid will be released on the 18th, it takes 2-3 business days for the amount to show in the account so it might not be until the 23th or 24th before you're able to get it and use it.

If you have to pay your landlord before that date, you can take out an emergency loan from the financial aid office to keep your landlord happy & you would either have to pay back the loan or the university will deduct it from your disbursement (check the What I Owe page, depending on where you stand. However, you will have to go in person to take out that loan.

If you can't get there in person on time or move in on the weekend when the office is closed & don't have any funds to pay for the rent upfront, then you're screwed.

This applies to the students who are NOT taking any summer courses & who applied in time. For the ones who ARE taking any, the funds will not be released until your grades kick in, so that could be after the 23 or 24th when your funds are released.

Correct me if I am wrong anywhere & feel free to add to it.

Thanks for the info.

UT has so far only disbursed some of my financial aid and they have deducted that amount from my tuition bill, but I still have a large balance. Most of my aid is pending disbursement, like my federal direct loans. Does anyone know when the federal direct loans will be disbursed?

^ Around the first day of class, for sure during the first 12 class days.

I actually got it today and UT is depositing a check in my bank account in two days. That was pretty quick.

Pending Deposit…

^Did you get a notification that you will get a deposit?

I mean, I’ve had my tuition and for some reason, most (not all) of my housing costs paid for. I kinda need the rest of the housing to be paid off and the leftover money to be deposited since I have to buy books soon.

Got something like this in email

An electronic deposit, for $ 9,000,000,000 will be deposited
into your account on 08/20/10 (or the next business day). Please verify
your deposit was actually received by your bank BEFORE writing any
checks. It is possible that routing problems were encountered. If
your check is not in the bank on the date specified above please
call 471-1083 to correct routing info or to request a check. If problems
are encountered and we cannot contact you by phone a check will be
issued and held for you to pick up in Main Bldg, Room 132. If you cannot
pick up the check you will need to call the Office of Accounting
at (512)471-3723 to arrange for the replacement check’s disbursement.

I haven’t gotten anything like that yet.

I did get an email at around 9 p.m. saying that financial aid was released, but when I checked, no new funds were released then from the initial disbursement a few days ago.

I got that email as well and this one. I am guessing that was a general email to all the students as a notice and the deposit one is for individual students. Call them tomorrow, takes 30 min on avg. including wait time. They’ll tell you everything and anything you’re missing out on.

Yeah, I guess that’s the best bet.

Nxt, was that a typo on your part? Somehow I don’t think UT will be despositing $ 9,000,000,000 in your bank account lol.

So I never upgraded my ut eid to high assurance and didn’t give them my bank routing information. I’m expecting to get it mailed as a check, is that what they usually do or could I pick it from the office of accounting on campus? I really need it for books and wasn’t 18 so I couldn’t upgrade at orientation :(

^Yeah it’s normal. UT does direct deposit or mails a check.

Amy > Just make sure you give em the mailing address for Austin if you’ll be moving in from a different city or state before the check arrives in mail.

TMT90 > I hope its not a typo b/c I already made plans :)

Is anyone else getting a B-On Time Loan?

That’s the only thing that hasn’t been released yet, and I just called the Fin Aid Office.

I already had everything completed on the “What do I Need To Complete?” page (all the MPN, loan counseling things) and the guy from the fin aid office said that I needed to do another fin aid application online, and that when it’s complete, the money should come in 2-3 weeks after that.

2-3 weeks? That essentially means I have to buy books out of pocket correct?

Just kidding guys! I got my check in the mail today! That was fast.

Just got off the phone with a loan representative.

He said that because I just did my B-On Time loan appilcation confirmation online, that I have to wait around a whole month for my funds to be released.

This is seriously pretty ****ty. I never received any info from UT that I had to fill out an application online for the B-On Time Loan, and because of that I have to wait.

Lockdown-that sucks. In good news you generally don’t need books till sometime in the 2nd week.

I’m also expecting a b-on-time loan, but according to their website hhloans.com, funds will be disbursed 9/01 for me.
