Financial Aid & Dorm

On Cornell's financial aid website, it says:

Cost of Attendance

Your cost of attendance will include an allowance for these expenses:

⇒ Tuition and fees
⇒ Room (standard double room)
⇒ Board (Bear Traditional)
⇒ Books and supplies
⇒ Personal and Miscellaneous Expenses

Since it says standard double room, does this mean students applying for aid must get doubles? And what does Board refer to?

It doesn’t mean that you have to get a double if you apply for aid. Singles cost more, so you might not get extra money if you want to live in one vs. a double.

although if you do get a single, you can ask for an adjustment in your financial aid.

they will accommodate the extra financial burden with either an increase in loans or with an increase in work/study eligibility (your choice).
