Financial Aid Due by Jan 1st?????!!!!!

Arg.
I just printed off the Freshmen Financial Aid Application and in the top right corner it states the postmark deadline to be January 5.

Why can't they be consistent with deadlines?!? At this point I don't care if it's really Jan.1..I just want to know the truth!

For internationals, even Rice has the "financial forms deadline" on jan.1st........... Beat that. I faxed my documents to Cornell yesterday... Is tht okay?

Please see post 15....I have no idea why it was posted there instead of on page 2

NO,dewdrop87. 2007 taxes and W 2 forms are NOT the ONLY thing they require by January 1. They also want Cornell Fin. Aid application. and CSS/Financial aid profile, which by the way is pain in the butt. it is enormously long! and it requires you to have 2008 taxes or an ESTIMATE. What if we Can not estimate? What if I worked on 15 different jobs throughout the year? what if I dont remember? What if I dont want to do a guesswork. CSS profile charges 16 DOLLARS !!! for each school you submit it to. Should I ESTIMATE the whole 112 dollar worth report just because cornell is the only of 7 schools I am applying to that needs those papers NOW?

Or the deadline... if they have a deadline, then be it what it is. Why do they say they will process everything even after the deadline? it means its not really a deadline.

Uhhh. this makes me so mad. They just dont want to award aid, thats all.

This is probably not much consolation, but you can fill out an estimated CSS Profile now and have it sent only to Cornell. Then, when you have firmer figures, you can request that it be sent to your other schools.

The College Board won't let you re-send the Profile to Cornell with those new, firmer figures (you'd have to contact Cornell directly if there's a huge change), but it WILL let you update the figures from your Cornell profile before you have it sent to your other schools.

Incidentally, Cornell not only lists different deadlines on different forms/web pages...it also says Jan 1 is the DUE date in some places but says it's the POSTMARK date in others. AAARGHHH!!!!!

I started panicing too.
It seems the Jan 1 deadline is a suggestion rather than a deadline.

But it isn't even possible to complete because you need '08 returns in order to do the CSS profile.

The top of Regular Decision states "Applications received after the deadline will still be considered for all forms of financial aid, and will be processed as soon as possible.".

Why are you waiting so long to even send the financial aid form? These things should be done a week in advance.

In advance to What plauhacker? in advance to which deadline, they say five different in different parts of their website. In in advance to January 1, January 2 (as one of their pdf fels claims), January 5th as the fin aid application says in the upper right hand corner, or February 11, as Collegeboard and common application websites say? are they crazy?

haha stanford09. thats some funny stuff, but i share in your frustration. my parents incomes are all over the place from year to year because of bonuses and i just noticed this fin aid thing today.. or yesterday

ok so here's my story... I did georgetown ea, so when I originally filled out the profile, I did all the required questions and I ONLY did the "Supplementary questions" that georgetown required. A couple months later, I add the other 12 colleges to my list and I did not do the other Supplementary Qs that the other 12 required because I thought that I was done with my entire profile...wrong

now I have sent the profile out to all 13 with missing SQs. what should I do? call the FA office or email them the missing answers? how will those changes be recorded??

Wow, screw you Cornell. What kind of school does this, honestly.
