I am beyond worried about my financial aid package (or possible lack thereof). I really do need the aid, I wouldn't be applying for it if I didn't and I've already been accepted ED, but I'm really worried. If they were just counting my custodial parent I wouldn't be so worried, but when they count my noncustodial parent the total income triples. Do they count the noncustodial parent in the same exact manner as a custodial one? And what have people's experiences been with FA for ED? If I have to appeal is there any chance at all I'll be able to get at least something?

I also have a question about financial aid too…
Do they just look at our CSS profiles and decide our fin aid packages for ED?
Or do they adjust them after we submit our FAFSA?

All right, today I received the official letter from Cornell. First of all, for some strange reason the letter was open (!). But I believe nothing was stolen/lost. The letter said that the fin aid offer is going to be sent directly from their financial aid office. Does anyone know when to expect it. I’d like to see my fin aid offer before I reserve a seat in college. And, two, how should I send the $400 deposit, cash or check (if check, then how to fill it out (to, for)?)

I’m wondering about the same questions, but I just wanted to say that my letter was open too! I thought that was a little odd but maybe it was like that for everyone then?

I just got my letter today. Somehow, it was open as well but it seems like everything was still in there. I’d really like to send in my deposit as well but I’d like to get my fin. aid package beforehand.

It’s a mystery, guys. All of our envelopes were open! Jk. I don’t know what may have happened. At first, I though the mailman decided to spy on me, lol.
Just to make sure, in my envelope I had:
- The “Welcome to Cornell” letter with steps listed
- Cornell University card to sign
- An envelope to send the card back
- The letter of acceptance
- A red R.S.V.P. acceptance coupon 2010-11

Can we send the $400 deposit and still have the right to decline the acceptance (if the finaid is not good enough)?

And just bring my questions up a little bit:

The steps are listed on the back of the acceptance* “coupon” (lol)
it says to send a “check, draft or money order payable to Cornell Uiversity”

My envelope also came opened. Since everyone else in this thread had the same situation, I’m assuming it was normal for everybody. Also, I have a question about Financial Aid. I’m very clueless about Financial Aid so please bear with me here. I’ve heard that most Ivies, if not all of them, allow students whose yearly family incomes do not exceed a certain number ($30,000) to attend the university free. Is this true?

@sxeYustas:

I have
- Letter of Acceptance
- “Welcome to Cornell” letter
- Red Acceptance Coupon card with no text inside
- Acceptance card to sign with instructions on deposit on back
- Envelope to return the card

Do I have everything or did something fall out of my envelope? Your descriptions weren’t exceptionally clear. Looking at my envelope, looks like someone forgot to wet and seal it.

@Yunsang Yes, but you have to apply for financial aid, deadline was in November and you should have received your FA offer along with your acceptance packet unless you submitted the FA late.

actually it says in the letter many people got today/yesterday that the financial stuff will be sent separately. how soon is what i’m wondering…

azn6138
that’s what I had in my envelope.

When my kids were accepted ED a few years back the FA letter came within days of the acceptance letter that came via snail mail.

I got in through ED. In October, I sent in the CSS file to Cornell. When I got my acceptance letter with the request card, there was no financial aid stuff. Am I missing some kind of form to fill out?

Also, what are the steps for the financial aid application? I really need help here.

new to this… if you reply to someone’s thread do you get a notification if someone writes back? thanks!

I submitted my FA late last year, and I got my FA letter in January or February.

Also, my non-custodial parent raised my income bracket from <50k to a lot over 100k. The package was not what I had anticipated, and I am planning to sign the non-custodial parent waiver for next year’s FA deadline.

kaziurra i have a very similar situation to what it seems like you had. was the FA at least still reasonable?

I think I didn’t submit the financial Aid application. I only submitted the CSS profile, and I thought that was complete for the Financial Aid application, as under the Cornell financial aid page for ED, only the CSS profile has a November 1 deadline, and not the 2010 freshman Aid Application form. Where can I find (2010 Freshman Aid Application for US Citizens and Permanent Residents)?

Wait wasn’t the CSS profile the only thing we needed for our application until FAFSA came out?

^ for international that’s not the case
