A few days ago I received an email from the Brown financial aid office requesting additional tax information regarding my parents’ business. My mom is now convinced that, due to its arrival time (very close to the decision deadline), that I am as good as accepted. I applied ED and thought that I would just wait and see, but my mom’s excitement has me worried that nothing will come of it. Any input from others who have received a similar email would be great.

I got a similar email last thrusday. My dad, too, flipped out. Hopefully it means something, but who knows.

I applied ED and actually submit my application (with the CSS and financial information) on September 29th, which made it even weirder that they request more information from me so late in the process.

I’ve also heard that Harvard has all it’s decisions made, and right now they’re just figuring out financial aid in order to released their decisions on the 15th. Maybe Brown’s doing the same, which means that them asking for more information is a good thing, but again, I know just as much as the next guy.

it could POSSIBLY be a good sign… however just because someone didnt get one doesnt mean anything. it could just mean all the FA information was complete.

I got same request for info – if FA office works independently from ADCOM then they must be clarifying aid info for all ED students – or do you think it’s just for those they want? Or might want?

There has already been a convo about this in the past. here’s the link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/158134-financial-aid-information-request-letter.html
Sorry to rain on your parade, but the conclusion on that thread was that they send out the email to anyone who doesnt have a complete application since the FA is a part of the app. This was confirmed by a guy who used to be an admission officer at a “private university in the northeast”

Thanks for all your help, at least it’s just a 5 day wait now. Fingers crossed!!!

Did you guys get a personal e-mail? In other words, did a financial aid officer actually send it rather than some undisclosed source?

A financial officer sent mine, he even typoed, lol

Yeah same here. I got mine VERY recently – in fact, I got the e-mail after decisions were supposedly made. (Someone on this forum confirmed that the change in application summary indicates that decisions have been finalized.) I hope this is somewhat indicative of good news, although I know we’re not supposed to be overanalyzing like this lol

the financial aid office works independently from admissions so dont look into it too much. every single application has its fa information confirmed and archived regardless of the decision

quick question for highway and zealous…

In your e-mail, did the fin. aid officer emphasize at the end that financial aid and admissions are completely different processes (i.e. we shouldn’t conclude anything from this e-mail)?

Please note that this request is independent of any decision ultimately made by the Office of Admissions in regard to your application for admission to the University.

What he said. I’m sure it means that Fin.Aid and admissions are two completely different processes, but it could be taken as “no matter what, you’re In”… but as we all know, It’s 99.9% sure it’s the first one.

We seem to have gotten the same exact message. By any chance, could you tell me which officer sent you the msg?

Anyway, Zealous, do you consider yourself a strong applicant? I know it’s a weird question, but I’m wondering what your stats are like – because that might confirm our little theory.

I certainly not the strongest applicant, I fall in the middle (for Brown, at least), but I am a URM living abroad (US citizenship), so in the URM spectrum, I believe I’m a solid candidate.

officer’s first name is Chris

Huh – my officer is different, even though our messages are seemingly the same. Were you asked for your parents’ tax return forms?

I received an email from the Dartmouth financial aid office about two weeks before my acceptance. I don’t know if that counts for anything.

Yes I was asked for my parents’ tax forms

Kev, you mentioned that there was a typo in the msg you received… can you mention what the typo is? I wonder if we have the same thing in mind.

What did you have in mind?

submited, instead of submitted
