Financial Aid for Admitted International Students

i got accepted but w/o FA
i didn’t apply FA cuz Johns hopkins is NOT need blind and thought they wouldn’t give me any aid anyway since my dad’s income is 120k even tho our economy is pretty bad

The whole situation is just unfortunate. Sure, my parents might be able to afford this, but that would mean taking out a second mortgage. That’s completely unreasonable to expect of them.

My family’s income is 30k a year

I need aid, but I am an international.

How do you check if how much you were awarded?

3211, do you mean American ones or Canadian ones?

.serendipity, nice those are some good schools haha. For U of A i only got like $1000 scholarship (not even renewable), whereas at other places i got 1/2 tuition… i was kinda bummed cuz we have family and it would have been fun to go there, but not paying full tuition lol. good luck with your scholarships! i’m waiting for my top choice now (Brown), and i’m pretty sure i know how thats gonna turn out lmao

i’m kinda different from you guys though cuz i applied as a permanent resident of the US, but it didnt help at JHU apparently haha

100Canadian, you never know with the admissions process. Brown could very well accept you! Did you apply for Scholastic Distinction at the U of A? That could take you to half-tuition. Nevertheless, I’ve read the list of schools to which you’ve gotten scholarships, so you shouldn’t worry too much about the admissions process anymore, imo. In which city/province do you live, if you don’t mind me asking?

You know what’s funny about Canada…
The majority of people in BC want to study at McGill or U of T; while a lot of people in Quebec and Ontario want to study at UBC…

@100Canadian
i was also rejected but dont’ worry…i mean 4 people at my school applied and the applicant with the lowest SAT scores and GPA was admitted. It’s definitely like a lottery. I’m sure everything will turn out nicely on tuesday.,.well for all of us =]

hey… did any of you guys receive the aid offers in the online decision ??. i mean nothing of aid is mentioned in the online letter?!!

kiera—log on to ISIS to see aid, the e-mail should have a link to the page.

I’m going to have to appeal for aid too :frowning: my dad recently became unemployed a few weeks ago and I guess finding a job isn’t going so well because he’s still pacing about the house… that’s justifiable reason, isn’t it? On top of the fact that we have no money saved because everything that is made has to go to pay something, there’s no way I can afford this for 4 years…

There are a number of Canadian on this thread. I would like to ask your opinions about my situation.
I have a dual citizenship (US and Canada) and currently live in California. I plan to apply to med school in the future and I have been accepted to BME of the following schools:

JHU - 18K FA
Duke - 37K FA
WashU - 37K FA
Northwestern - 25K FA
U of Toronto - UofT Scholar 5K

^Unless you have a preferred school in the list above, choose the one that gives you the most money, obviously.

What’s your income bracket, if you don’t mind me asking?

100K+ - my fafsa EFC 17K

No offence, but ***. My situation is not too different from yours, yet I’m getting $0 financial aid.

Anyways, You should obviously choose Duke or WashU.

i’m thinking about working during the summer in my country(not USA cuz obviously it’s illegal lol)
and apply for many outside scholarships, hopefully getting at least some

I want to gather about 20,000 myself through working during the summer at home country, working at college year round and scholarships & loans…

hopefully my parents can pay about 30,000…

^What country are you in?

For Canada, most of the scholarships obtained would only be tenable IN Canada, That sucks a lot.

So I just checked - my EFC is around $26000. ■■■.
