Financial Aid for American students at Oxbridge?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to know whether or not oxbridge normally offer any financial aid to american students, and, if so, how much. this is a really big factor in whether or not i'm able to apply, and i can't find the information on the website.

thanks!

No. Universities in the UK do not offer financial aid like schools in the US do. There may be one or two scholarships available to international students, and your college might offer some funding, but it will vary wildly. You cannot count on any sort of financial aid at all. If you need money, look at outside scholarships.

For overseas undergraduates there is almost zero money availabe. Look on the web-sites of individual Oxbridge colleges. You may find a few that offer small scholaships. But in many cases this will be £100-£500. This does not really make a dent in the £10,000+ per year you need.

For US undergrads it’s more like 25,000 pounds per year - university, college, and accomodation fees. And no, there is generally no funding available.

Studying in the UK is very expensive for Americans but don’t let that stop you from applying. I am an American studying at the University of Birmingham, Uk and because of the costs of studying in the UK I didn’t think I’d be able to go to UBham. But I was determined and I looked all over for different scholarships available and to my surprise I was able to receive a good amount.

For instance, there is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for students from outside the United Kingdom to study at the Universities in the UK. I also recommend you look into applying for the Marshall Scholarship. This particular scholarship provides students with two fully- funded years of study and possibly a third year.

There are scholarships out there and though it takes time, it pays off! I hope you find this useful. Good luck.

You can look here for more information - [Scholarships and funding - Study advice - Education UK - USA](http://www.britishcouncil.org/usa-educationuk-scholarships.htm) . However, from my experiences UK institutions do not accept financial aid from US colleges. The only way that I have experienced this transferring was when one of my friends applied to a faculty led program and her tuition remained the same and she received her financial aid. Hope this helps!
