Hi. I'm currently a junior, looking out into for some scholarships for art schools.
I just want to know what determines how much one receives.

My GPA is a 3.5, my freshman score on the ACT was a 25. I'm planning on retaking it this year, and I'm taking AP computer science and AP art next year.

The schools I'm looking at are SAIC, SFAI, Pratt, MICA, and RISD.

What are the pro/cons for each school (Specifically)
What does each school specifically look at in a portfolio?
I heard SAIC is generous on scholarships. Is this true??
What do I have to do to get their ATTENTION in giving me more money?

(just on a side note, I'm thinking about getting a Bach. in Fine Arts and then going to Interior Design for my Masters)

If you have financial need most good LACs will give you near a full ride. SAIC and SFAI are ok for aid but the don’t often meet full need. I could not find anything on Maryland Institute College of Art or RISD for financial aid. Perhaps try some LACs such as Conneticut College, Trinity College, Mount Holyoake, or others. Really there are many options for a undergrad degree and quite a few will get you through your BFA with little or no debt.

personally out of your list I think MICA is the most generous with finaid.
they really try to help you out & offer extra if you win any of the two big compitions (youngarts and/or scholastic). SAIC did offer me a merit though, but it I just feel MICA is more helpful in the process. but yea you should really think about entering those comps, if you win its really an honor (and both offer up to 10,000 as top prize money) and you can use it to leverage more finaid at most arts schools.

Hi iamphoto,
I did look at the Young Arts scholarship, but didn’t understand how it worked.
Does it only have 1 competition every year?
And how much do they give you if you win?

Thanks.

Hey!

They do have it every year. You can only enter as a Senior/12th grade.
You enter your work by the deadline and it is judged. You can either get/win two things…A Merit or Honorbale Mention Award (which I got). Or advance on to YoungArts Week in Miami, where you can win anywhere from 1,000-10,000 dollars (which is yours). Either one is a HUGE HONOR and even if you don’t go to Miami you are still considered a member of YoungArts.

If you have anymore questions let me know :)

Hi Iamphoto,
can you submit more than once?

well…
you can submit in more than one category.
but you can only enter your senior year of high school

Ah, I see. I will definitely enter my senior year then!! thank you for letting me know about it
