My D is a freshmen at Harvard and we have just completed the Profile etc for her sophomore year. I am wondering if the new financial aid package will affect her or will the amount we pay be based on last years terms?

It changes every year. Why don't you ask the financial aid officer in charge of your daughter's case about it? You can find out by just calling them up -- find the appropriate person here:

Harvard College Financial Aid Office - Contact - Staff Directory

Thank you, I will give them a call.

It should affect her as well. I have a sophomore there as well as a D who's just been accepted for the fall. From D2's amount for a parents' contribution and the basis upon which her student contribution was calculated, I can see that D1's Total Family Contribution appears as if it should go down by about $5000.

GADad: Is that because you'll have two in college now or because of the new aid initiative?

Although you won't find out for sure until around June as to what the impact is, the new initiative is also applicable to current students.

Sorry Twinmom, I keep forgetting to add that. Yes, this will be our second in college at the same time, so our assessment on the parents' income works out to about 7%. It should be a little higher (and, accordingly, the decrease in cost somewhat less) for parents with a single college student.
