Apparently there is this notion that Rice gives less financial aid (both need-based and merit scholarships) to ED students. I applied ED to Rice and am both on need-based financial aid and a merit trustee diversity scholarship.
Before applying ED, I asked an admission officer I know about this because I was worried, and this person assured me that Rice does not distinguish between RD and ED students when it comes to aid. You can make whatever arguments make sense to you against this (they made sense to me when I had my doubts), but someone that works for the admissions office has assured me this is not the case.

do u know if people who applied ED can apply for financial aid after they get accepted?? I totally missed the November 15th deadline.

I do not know about that but I do believe that people who apply ED should at least be adequately aided or something.

It depends on the school. Some have very lenient "deadlines". As for Rice you should call in, December is cutting it close. I assume you've at least got it done by now?

As I recall the November 15th deadline is a "priority" deadline. Rice is a pretty understanding school when it comes to deadlines, especially if you can come up with a reasonable excuse, so get off your ass and apply already even if you don't have one. The sooner the better.

Good luck!

lol so I was planning on applying on November 17th when I realized that I had missed the deadline and then I called the financial aid office to see what they had to say. I talked to some guy and he is like why would you apply for aid now...you are not even accepted yet?? Apply after you find out and blah blah... I was like ummm ok
I guess he was just an idiot...I should call again lol

Just a reminder guys that there is a FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIP chat for applicants next Tuesday (the 9th) at 6:30 P.M. CST . Their will be Rice Financial Aid reps, current students, etc.

Thanks iambored10 for this great info, will look forward to hear this, by the way is there anyone has received any new from rice admin yet?

All students are guaranteed to have their full institutionally determined need met. Even if you apply late. They only ask ED students to apply earlier so that they can provide an estimated financial aid package with the decision.

Thanks anxiousmom =]
