financial aid for high income students?

we'll have 3 in college next year, so might as well try to get some grants since everybody else does.

don't want to say exactly what our income is, so if anyone is around these numbers and got grants, if you don't mind sharing, would you say how much you got?

150k

175k
-200k

225k

250k
-275k

300k
-325k
-350k

more than 350k

thanks!

just call or email the financial aid office at cornell and they should be able to give you an estimate based on your income. easy enough!

Parents make ~150K and I’m an only-child = no FA.

i did call, they were really vague lol so i’ve been playing with the finaid calculator online and i’m surprised at how generous the numbers are, but it may be too good to be true. we’ll see.

thanks for responding caillebotte. how are things with you? still roaming the world?

^ Things are good, definitely pumped for graduation. How’s the transfer crew?

Oh and gl with the grants but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

If you fill out the online calculator accurately, it should be a reasonable estimate. Ours was within 10% or so of what my S was really offered in grant aid. No guarantees until you get the actual offer, but it should give you a ballpark idea anyhow.

~190k, first of 3 kids, 5k loan.

This depends so much on assets and other expenses as well, that it’s hard to just say if you make $X you get $Y. We got more grant aid than the examples here would suggest, but our assets are low for our income level.

My family makes >150k and we got a bit over 8k in grants, 8k in loans, and 2k in work study. I’m not an only child, but I’ll be the only one in college for the next few years and our assets are quite good. I’m not sure if this is the norm, but Cornell was very generous. :)

Not sure if this fits on this thread or not, but I’ll just throw it into the mix:

Parents made 150k+ in 2008 and years before; but, in 2009 and 2010 we were only making ~70k because my dad was unemployed 6 out of 12 months each year. In 2011, so far he’s been employed the whole year, so it looks like we won’t be getting much FA when we reapply again next year.

Oh, this year we are expected to contribute 24K; we received 27k from Cornell Grant, 4k from RCPRS, another 2K from RCPRS (getting paid for research). We are very happy with what we received from Cornell since we were expecting minimal aid (only child, sitting on a lot of extra money invested in stocks/wasted at Casino, and we only received ~21k from other colleges).

I thought they did away with loans, and gave out grants instead?

They only did away with loans for families with incomes under $75K

We are in the $160,000 range, only one in college & we got zero at the college of Human Ecology. Talking with other parents, my hunch is that if our D was at one of the endowed colleges we’d get aid to get the price down close to the contract college cost.
