i think i should post this in this forum also:)

hi all, i really need your help. i am an international student from china and i intend to study in the usa. however, if there's no financial aid awarded, surely i will not be able to go us to study. and since i heard from my seniors that this year's admission situation is really very scary, such that whoever applied financial aid is rejected by the university. i really really really want to go us to study. can you guys give me some suggestions about which colleges or universities really award financial aid for international students?thank you very much.

p.s.how about macalester and dickinson?

6 colleges that are need-blind for international students are Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, Dartmouth, and Amherst. None of these are safeties or even matches for anyone.

Stating that you need financial aid =/= automatic rejection. If you need a boatload of it, though, try applying to some easier reaches that are willing to give good merit aid. I will shamelessly plug College of Wooster here; I got some pretty decent merit aid from them and they are very welcoming of international students (not attending because of other factors, but I love it to pieces and would’ve gone if I could).

As a general rule, LACs (liberal arts colleges) are more willing to give financial aid, but their sticker price is higher. Public universities have lower tuition, but again, less willing to give financial aid, particularly to international students. If you’re not particularly liberal/don’t give a crap about politics, try applying to colleges in the south. There are some schools, especially in less densely populated states, that have very low tuition/willing to give lots of $$ for diversity points. However, if you decide to attend these, just note that you might be the only (or one of a very tiny minority) of Asian kids there.
