Hi! My name is Debbie and I am currently a Junior in high school in Singapore. I am taking the IB diploma program at the moment and my subjects are
HL Math
HL Lang and Lit
HL Chemistry
SL Chinese B
SL Business and Management
SL Theatre

So, I am interested to study in the US after I graduate high school and I am interested in the following colleges. Oh and I intend to study a major in Communications and a minor in theatre or film.

USC
UCLA
Stanford
U of I Urbana Champaign
Boston University
Northwestern
Columbia

I was wondering, what are my chances of getting into these colleges as a international student with some financial help either from the school or an organisation and what are the average IB scores of students that do get into these colleges?

Most of the schools on your list give only need based aid. Without knowing your need as calculated by THOSE schools, it is impossible to tell you if you will get any need based aid.

Without knowing your overall GPA and SAT or ACT scores it is impossible to even guess (that is all we could do anyway) whether you will accepted.

With regard to acceptances…most of those schools have low acceptance rates overall, with even LOWER acceptance rates for international students. Many top international students apply, and your application will be considered in that pool of applicants.

BU and UIUC have higher acceptance rates but I would not count on big money from either place.

And lastly, many of these schools are NOT need blind for admissions for international students meaning your ability to pay will be considered when your application for admission is considered.

Will you be accepted with sufficient aid to attend? You have as good a chance as the rest of the applicants who are applying…a very large %age at the most generous schools are not admitted.

That sucks ): I think I belong in the category that is “rich” enough to support themselves but too poor to afford to pay for college at all. And my parents don’t believe in saving for college cause they aren’t the most money savey parents around. Whatever money they have, they spend. So I’m pretty much doomed for college if I don’t get some form of financial aid. I have yet to take my SATs cause I’m taking them in November this year. I am pretty smart I guess above average.
