Financial Aid for International students at Carnegie Mellon University

Hi,

I am currently interested in Carnegie Mellon University. However, after doing some research, it appears to me that CMU does not offer Financial Aid for international students!!! I also see that CMU suggests some external links called Opportunities for International students but I’m not sure if they offer a lot of scholarships or not. Do you know if there are any cases where international students attend CMU with ~half of the tuition? Or it is impossible for international students to attend CMU without paying full tuition?

Thank you!

And this…

This is what is on the CMU website. I would suggest you believe what it says. International students are not eligible for CMU financial aid.

Where do you think the money would come from to fund 1/2 this costs to attend CMU if the school gives NO financial aid to international students.

Really, if you have financial need…you need to look at a different college.

Maybe someone else here will interpret what CMU has on their website differently.

I don’t know about CMU int’l students particularly, but I do know this:

  1. there are almost zero private scholarships in the US for int’l students. That’s really no surprise.

  2. any int’l student that Ive known who has attended their school on aid that wasn’t from the school were kids who came from countries who gave their students aid. For example, I think there is a Scandinavian country that gives its students $XXXX dollars to go to college abroad.

CMU isn’t known to give tons of financial aid to domestic students (and I think that hurts them in the rankings), so it is no surprise they aren’t able to fund international scholarships.

They don’t give any financial aid or scholarships because their budget is not big enough.
