Financial Aid for International Students

Does anyone know how likely and how much an international student might be able to get as financial aid from Fordham? Do you think that it would help if I send in an extra recommendation from a teacher and my art portfolio? (I didn't send any rec for my Early app but still got accepted)

If I understand correctly, international students aren’t eligible for any need-based aid. However, they do have the opportunity to receive merit aid. In which case, it may be beneficial to send those additional documents into Fordham. Definitely the recommendation at least. You may want to ask about the portfolio because admissions might prefer if you sent it to the visual arts department.

I think Yenrod is correct, that international students are not eligible for ordinary federal financial aid, or New York state aid. The Fulbright program, however, funds American students doing graduate work overseas and in return funds some GRADUATE foreign students in the United States, but that requires a lot of paperwork, and I don’t know who controls that and at what level. Check with the State Department, as they might know. Or google Fulbright and see what contacts you can find.
Fulbright is a sort of offshoot of the government, in that Sen. Fulbright started the scholarship and its administered by the Dept. of State through a foundation.

Many foreign students study in the US with monies from their home country government. All others are basically on their own, or perhaps get private sector loans. I have no idea if Citibank, for example, lends to foreign students (or if this is even prudent).
