Hi everybody. Can someone help me to find universities that give financial aid for international students ? (Neither from Canada nor Mexico). I already found that MIT, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Amherst and Dartmouth give need blind financial aid for the applicants accepted, but these are really difficult universities to go to, but these are quite impossible to access to. Would any of you give me informations ? Thanks
Also post in the International Thread.
The schools that guarantee to meet full need for all international students are highly competitive. It is very possible that less than 5% of international students who apply get accepted.
What are your SAT/ACT scores and GPA?
Can your parents contribute anything annually towards college?
What options do you have in your country which would be affordable?
Look at the top 25 liberal arts colleges.
The thing to keep in mind…there are only six colleges that are both need blond for admissions AND guarantee to meet full need for all admitted international students.
This means that others that meet full need will consider your ability to pay when they consider your admission application.
@thumper1 I am rising junior, so i didnt take the sat yet. I’m from morocco, and my parents can pay up to 10k $ per year. What do you mean by affordable options? I still have time to prepair, and i think there are not more than 100 moroccans going to us universities, so that would maube be a chance for me
@Gumbymom thanks a lot for the links
@moneyp Liberal arts college do not get any recognition outside of US, so it is not really interesting for me unfortunetaly. Correct me if i’m wrong
You are looking for a U.S. college education. Are you looking for “name recognition” or are you looking for affordability?
@thumper1 the thing is that outside of US, for example in europe, people don’t give recognition of liberal arts colleges, and it’s extremly difficult to get a job there. If i stay in the us, it doesnt matter for me to go to a college, it can even be better, does that make sense ?
Getting a job here after college…while here on a student visa…is not a slam dunk.
^^ In fact, it is downright arduous, with only 30% of applicants for work visa accepted. It does not matter if your degree is Harvard; the American government will not care if you are not lucky.
@Abdel2102 - You need to start by reading through all of the information at https://educationusa.state.gov/ Then contact the counselors at the advising center closest to where you live. There are two in Morocco: https://educationusa.state.gov/find-advising-center?field_region_target_id=&field_country_target_id=189&field_center_level_value=All The counselors there are expert at helping students like you find good places to study in the US. They will know which places here have admitted students in recent years and if those students got any scholarships.
@happymomof1 thanks a lot! @International95 Okay i’ll remember that
@thumper1 why are you saying that ? It’s not even funny. If i’m wrong or you’re not okay with my opinion just say it. I want no more than answers to my questions…
I’m saying what I said because you referenced getting jobs. And I agree with international95
It is very important that you know that it isn’t easy for international students to stay in the US after they graduate. Depending on what you study, you will be able to work here for 12 to 18 months during the OPT extension of your student visa. You need to plan to leave the US when that time ends.
You also need to be very careful about what you say during the interview for your student visa. If the person who interviews you thinks that you plan to stay in the US, you won’t get that visa. You need to tell them that once you finish your education here you will definitely return home to Morocco.
okay i see now @thumper1 @happymomof1 i’ll remember that, thanks for the advice
