I’m an international student who plans to apply for financial aid in NU, but the websites says that only a small group of international students receive their need-based financial aid, is that true? And besides, they says that Northwestern’s acceptance rate for international applicants requesting aid is less favorable than acceptance for students not requesting aid, is that true? Any international students currently studying in NU would like to share? Thanks!
Not an NU student, but this is the case at most US universities and colleges. Northwestern is only need blind for US citizens and permanent residents. And yes, the international acceptance rate is lower than that for US citizens/residents, and yes, needing aid will also make it more difficult. The university is pretty upfront about that on their website.
Do a search on CC for those schools that are need blind for international students. They are out there. Northwestern just doesn’t happen to fall into that category. Here’s a recent article from Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/quanzhiguo/2018/07/19/only-five-u-s-colleges-are-truly-need-blind-for-international-students-here-they-are/#7d2d24c74a9a
