If I don’t go to a SUNY school and go to a private or out of state institution will I get financial aid? My mother makes about 38000 after taxes as a single mother with 2 kids. I’m also autistic which may factor into things because various schools (larger ones) have certain scholarships. Will this get me financial aid at schools like u kentucky, Boulder, Iona, Utah, etc. what will my overall net price be?
We have NO WAY to answer your question.
The colleges you have listed do not guarantee to meet full need for all…so the amount of aid you would receive would be anything from just the Direct Loan and whatever Pell Grant you are eligible for…to more aid.
In terms of merit aid…what is your ACT or SAT score. What is your GPA?
Do you currently have an IEP or 504 accommodation plan? Will you need disability services in college?
Is there some reason why you wouldn’t choose to go to a SUNY school to which you could commute? You would be eligible for the Excelsior award which pays full tuition. If you could commute from home…this could be doable.
Your TAP will not cover full tuition at OOS public or private colleges.
And the ones you have listed will be unlikely to meet your full need.
Yeah but I live in the city and some out of state schools are easier to get into.
Plus I kind of want to be somewhere I’ve never been before that would be a cool experience
@thumper1 what is the excelsior award? My gpa isn’t great it’s a 3.1 but I plan to keep mid 90s my junior year. Is it merit based?
The Excelsior gives free tuition at a SUNY to accepted students with $125,000 or less annual family income…and you do qualify, it seems. It is nit merit based, but you do have to get accepted.
@sybbie719 could you explain better.
If you live IN NYC, what about CUNY?
Well I’m looking to do geography so hunter college is a maybe but schools like geneseo buffalo and oneonta seem like a much better fit for me
Your problem is going to be how to pay for your room and board costs. I believe your tuition will be covered either through TAP or Excelsior…but your loving expenses won’t be.
I don’t know about EOP, but @sybbie719 does. Maybe you would qualify for that…I’m not sire what all that would give you.
Well maybe my grandmother can help out she makes well over 300 a year maybe I should talk to her
Excelsior is a last payer. Any monies that Op receives from TAP and Pell will be applied to his/her tuition first then Excelsior will pick up any remaining monies.
@austinmshauri is correct, your big hurdle will be paying for your room and board
You will need to apply to CUNY so that you have a financially feasible option on the table.
What are your SAT/ACT scores.
How many people are in your household. How much does your mother make before taxes and deductions? This will determine your eligibility for HEOP/EOP
You need to talk to yourguidance counselor or transition coordinator about services through ACESS-VR
