Financial aid for out of state students

I have heard a little bit about acquiring out of state tuition waivers. I know that you are supposed to apply directly through the specific school but I was wondering if there are any waivers open for all students to apply. I am entering the business honors program next fall and I do not think mccombs has waivers available starting my freshmen year. Thank you so much in advance to anyone who can offer any insight. I really appreciate it.

I believe that tuition waivers are very difficult to get (although I recall at least one poster on CC got one). When I called the engineering school to inquire for my son a couple of years ago, the woman was polite but basically laughed! She said the engineering school has only 7 or 8 waivers total for ALL four years, not just freshmen. My son had pretty good stats, too. He got a $1,000 scholarship, but that was it.

It can’t hurt to make a couple of phone calls to UT, though. I found the people there to be very helpful when I called to ask questions.

@txlonghorns - We’re classmates! I was accepted to the BHP as well! Glad to see another OOS student (: Where are you from? I live in Vermont.

I actually had the same question though. I read somewhere on the McCombs website that they don’t offer Out of State Tuition Waivers for the business school but I am going to ask UT reps myself when I head down for the Discover BHP weekend in March. Are you heading down to that as well?!

If you are from Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and New Mexico you can check if other waivers apply.

I wouldn’t count on the OOS tuition waivers, however. UT accepts OOS sudents knowing that they will be able to pay the OOS amount, so make sure you are able to finance UT without the waiver.

Last spring there was a student from California??? here who was offered an OOS waiver. He had EFC 0.
I guess UT gives OOS waivers based on need.
