How is financial aid for out of state residents? My household income is middle class but we have a lot of bills and not a lot of spending money.

Please remember: The UC system is seeking OOS students as a source of revenue. They want the money. Your financial aid will be calculated on the in-state cost of attendance and the OOS supplement of $22,878 will be ADDED to your expected contribution. You will not receive financial aid toward the $22,878 OOS supplement. You can use the net price calculator to get an estimate: <a href=“Financial Aid Estimator - UC Berkeley Financial Aid and Scholarships Office”>http://calculator.berkeley.edu/

A UC campus for a middle-class OOS student is generally not a good financial choice. It would be a good idea to investigate you own state flagship.

*A general financial aid note: Consumer debt (a lot of bills) is not considered in financial aid calculations and will not benefit you. Please check on the Financial Aid Forum for more information.

Berkeley is expensive for OOS students. However, I did receive a scholarship from Berkeley (Berkeley undergrad scholarship) and so did some of my other friends who are OOS as well. So that helped out a lot! Also, comparatively speaking, I’m paying about the same as an in-state student who didn’t qualify for financial aid.

What kind of stats are needed for the scholarship?

Bear in mind that when berkeleypride says that with the scholarship it costs about as much as an in-state student without aid, that means it is about $32,000/year - are your parents comfortable with that?
