Financial aid for second Bachelor's degrees?

well I am currently going for my second BA… and there is no aid… and I was told to take out Private loans… If you have used up all of your money for your BA then from what I was told you are SOL… and I am feeling the pain now… trust me…

This is an interesting thread. I like the suggestion of getting a job in IT at a University and then taking advantage of the opportunities to take classes there.

I’m not sure if I think you should get a second bachelor’s degree just because of the financial considerations. There are graduate programs in public policy, I had a friend who got a degree like that from Emory and then did work like what you are describing working for UNICEF.

I know this is an old post, but if anyone is still reading, here’s some input…

I think Cybis has the right idea. A second undergraduate in the liberal arts might be intellectually appealing, but it will put you further behind than you think in terms of debt, years, and trying to sell the change to future employers. It sounds like you’re interested in ultimately doing non-profit work (based on your post). The Peace Corps is a great option - if you have the stones to spend two years in a foreign country. IT people are in great demand for programs teaching computer literacy in developing countries, but the great thing about it is that you aren’t confined to one area. You can carve out your own job description. If women’s rights, health, or education are what you’re really interested in, you are 100% free to pursue those as well. When you get back, you have two years of really impressive experience under your belt (doing exactly what you’re interested in), you have guaranteed fellowships to certain graduate programs all over the country, and you’re not in tens of thousands of dollars of debt. Look into this before you commit to another 2-3 years of expensive education.

(Full disclosure: I’m a returned Peace Corps Volunteer.)

This thread is over 2 years old; if dude decided to go back for the 2nd bachelor’s he’d already be finished or close to it.
