I’m a current student at an elite private school with a pretty large endowment. Due to COVID, my parents are unable to pay for my tuition since my mom got laid off. Will the school allow me to change from full pay to giving some financial aid? They claim to have a need-blind policy, so does that only apply to applicants or can current students request? I still have 2 years left to attend and I still really want to stay in this school. If not, are there any ways to be able to pay the money in order to continue going to school? Thank you so much!
@tacocat123 - so sorry you and your family find yourselves in this situation. You all must be so stressed.
Hopefully someone will chime in with specific help. But I think your best move is to let your school’s financial aid department know asap. Now is the time - before families make commitments for next year and before they start awarding financial aid for incoming freshmen.
Schools have dealt with this issue of changing financial needs before, and must be anticipating it for this year. I imagine they will be sympathetic, and the more time you give them to figure it out the better.
Best to your family
Yes, you can apply for financial aid as a current student. You should do it asap. The financial aid forms for returning students could be due this week.
