Financial Aid for Transfers?

Do transfer colleges give the same financial aid help as incoming freshmen or is it going to be really expensive?

i got roughly 10G's for UCSD and the rest are in loans

i rought got about 6G's for Cal and UCLA....that covers the majority of tuition...

My expected family contribution is about 4,000. Do they subtract that from tuition+room/board which is around 15,000?

i got about 21000 for all the schools

what sucks is, as a freshman my efc was 8000. now, it went up to 24,000... so i get nothing, which isn't good because the cost of living out here is extremely high and the expectation of my family to pay 24,000 a year is unreasonable.

I know, Im the same way. My family makes 80k, my EFC is 19k, and we live in southern CA. Yeah right. We pay like 30k a year for our house alone, before food, cars, insurance, utilities, etc. NYU expected my parents to take out 30k a year in loans. It sucks.

so basically transfers and entering freshmen are treated the same in financial aid?

Some schools have specific scholarships for transfers. Check out Tulane for example.

It really depends on the schoool. Ivy league's for example will meet 100 percent of your need through grants and loans. Umich offered me about 16K in grants and the rest in loans.

Some schools like Northwestern; however, do not give institutional financial aid for transfers.

shinkun: not brown and columbia cry

with a 20,965 budget for Off-campus housing....I received over 16,000 in Grants and Scholarship and 3,000 for Work Study....

It's definitely doable. I don't really think this is a good question though, just read the materials on Financial a UC Education,or your prospective school's Financial Aid question.

My efc was somehting ludicrous...like...80k or something. but eh. we live in orange county and my mom basically lives month to month (single parent;supports myself and 2 siblings and my grandmother). Not that I was expecting anything, but I laughed at that number. cuz thats just insane.

Looks like I'll be spending my summer writing scholarship essays. yay!.

Oh, but I just realized I have $2000 from the state of California from when they were giving out incentives for HS kids to do well on the STAR tests (anyone remember that?). Not too shabby.
