Financial Aid for wait lists

Hey, i was just wondering how colleges work out financial aid packages for those kids they take off the wait list. I have been wait listed at emory and notre dame and am doing everything possible to get in. However, cost is a major concern for my family and both of these universities cost about 40K. If i was accepted at one of these colleges would i still be able to get a good financial aid package?

You need to call each of those college's financial aid office and ask if wait listed kids get 100% of need and any grants are left.

Well im kinda in the same position with Vassar and CMU. Both waitlisted. I think ill get into Vassar and CMU, but I dont think they'll give me good aid...They say it themselves that "please keep in mind that university funds and grants may not be sufficient at that time of admission.

Good question b238 and a responsible one.

Historically Emory and Notre Dame are weak when it comes
to "need based" grant support. Particularly with their own money.
.
Therefore a student who has "demonstrated need" and filed the FAFSA
and Profile ahead of deadlines earlier in the year, will have about 25%
less grant money offered than if accepted earlier. (Assuming their was
grant eligibiltiy to begin with.)

Also, if the primary income of the household comes from a parent owned business
there may be no "gift aid" offered at all.

Sorry to convey that message, but it is from experience.

Be aware that the published college costs do not tell the whole story.
In order to keep the costs "down", they will low ball indirect expenses.
Next year COA for Emory: $45,078 Notre Dame: $42330 depending on where you
live, does your laundry and what you do on weekends.
