Hi, I am a recently accepted Michigan State applicant from New York. I was wondering what sort of financial aid I could expect to get.
For Merit
-3.0 gpa
-25 ACT, 22 English, 22 Math, 32 Reading, and 23 Science
-I plan to be a pre-law major

For Need
I am curious what kind of aid other people from New York have gotten in the past, I am also a double legacy, wondering if that will make a difference.

I really want to go here, it is my first choice institution but tuition for out of state students is too much for my family to handle. Is it probable for me to expect to go here?

Merit? Most likely none. Financial aid depends on income and EFC. We need to know those things before answering.

Really? No merit aid at all? I don’t really know my parent’s financial situation I’m just curious if there is a small amount of money given to out of state students or if there is in fact a large amount going in to recruit these students.

And does my double legacy have no effect on this at all?

I don’t think the double legacy will have much, if any, effect.

Generally, to get merit aid, you need to be in the top pool of applicants. Your ACT is middle of the pack and your GPA is in the bottom 25% of those admitted. The Honors College has some very nice packages for OOS students, but again- merit is only for top students.

Here are some scholarships if you want to look: [Scholarships | Michigan State University Office of Admissions](http://admissions.msu.edu/finances/scholarships.asp) - some have specific requirements.

I am instate, so my experience will differ, but I didn’t get any merit with a 3.8 and 33 ACT.

^yeah i echo what romani says. Your stats are honestly mediocre in comparison to the averages at MSU. If you don’t have above-average stats at MSU, you generally won’t receive any type of merit aid even if you are an out of state student (who they are generally trying to recruit). I am an out of state student who received a good amount of merit aid, but I also had a 33 ACT & 4.0 weighted gpa (most of my scholarships were through the honors college). If you don’t qualify to get into the honors college, you most likely won’t get much merit aid. You might receive a $5000 study abroad scholarship that is given to a lot of out-of-state students but that is it. Need-based financial aid might be able to help you get in…but that completely depends on your family income/other information.
