I got into 2 very similar LACs that guarantee 100% aid, however I'm more attracted to the school that is giving more in loans and was wondering if I could try to appeal and maybe use the other package as leverage

School 1 (the one I'd rather go to) is about 45,000 versus School 2 which is 49,000 (but it also accounts books, travel and other expenses) which School 1 doesn't

School 1 expects a family contribution of 4400 and school 2 expects 6100,
but I would be taking 6,100 in loans a year for school 1 and i would be taking 1,100 in loans a year for school 2.

I realize that both have given me generous aid offers, but I'm being compelled to accept School 2's offer and I don't want to come off as greedy to School 1 since both are meeting my aid in different ways.

Can't hurt to ask, though it sounds like the differences are not huge in any case. At this time of year, it is amazing how, magically, you and your family can become "poorer" in order for the schools to increase yield.

Thanks for the reply, mini. I think I'm on board to call School 1, however I'm not how to address the issue since they will be meeting my aid on their terms. do I bring up my qualms of attending that school since comparable School 2 ends up being the cheaper alternative in the long run?

You tell them that $24.4k in loans over four years feels very steep, especially as they didn't figure in the other costs of attending, which adds $2k or so a year to what you need to come up with. You ask them whether they can look at it again to see if they can do better. You tell them that you were also admitted to School #2, but you'd really rather go to School #1.
