Financial Aid Help

I have recently been accepted by Princeton Day School, and was offered the Give Something Back Scholarship. But I can't seem to understand the following passage:

It is my pleasure to inform you of the details of xxxxx's Give Something Back Scholarship at Princeton Day School. In addition to covering tuition and fees, the Give Something Back Scholarship covers the cost of all misc. school related expenses. You total financial contribution for the 2012-2013 school year is $1,000

Does this mean I only have to pay $1,000, or that they are only giving me $1,000?

Thank you for your time!

I would read that it means that you only have to pay $1000, but the best thing to do is contact the school.

Congratulations on your acceptance!

Thank you sooo much! I will confirm this with the school ASAP, but they are on Spring Break.

It says: “in addition to covering tuition and fees . . . covers the cost of all misc. school related expenses.”

And: “Your total financial contribution is . . . $1,000.”

CONGRATULATIONS! This is saying that the scholarship is covering EVERYTHING but your contribution (which means - the amount you have to pay) of $1000.

Fantastic news for you and your family!

Thank you sooo much for verifying! Good luck to your family as well.

BEST OF LUCK TOMORROW!!!

Awesome news! Congratulations!

Congratulations!!! Wonderful news for you!

^^I recollect making the comment last year that “not all acceptances are equal.” This is a perfect example. This school doesn’t just want you, you are a priority to them. I realize you may still have choices to make, but W@W, what a great opportunity! :O

Well, thank you all, this school is awesome, but it is not one of the “competitive” schools, I also applied to Hun, Andover, Lawrenceville, and Peddie. Hope good results come tomorrow for all of you! But at least now I know that I will not be stuck in my public high school.

Best of Wishes!

Congrats HADES!

Omg it is laughalittle!!! Still waiting for Peddie email…

You’re still waiting? Wow! And GOOD JOB

HADES98, Peddie already sent out their emails about an hour or so ago. You may want to check your spam folder if you can’t find it.

I checked everywhere, but still can’t find it. Does this mean I am rejected?

Not necessarily because I was rejected and I got the email. Did you check with your parents? Perhaps that’s where it is.

I did, and I still can’t find it, I am sorry that you got rejected :(

@HADES98. Congrats on Princeton Day! I know that for some schools, accepted financial aid applicants are sometimes notified slightly differently and/or later than the full pay kids. It is hearbreaking for a parent to tell a child who is over the moon about having been accepted at a dream school, that the family can’t afford the tuition because the school didn’t offer enough aid/any aid. Some schools want to be sensitive to this and break the news to the parents via phone call. Sometimes a discussion is necessary to determine an individual’s family’s particular situation. They may offer the option of being on the financial aid wait list, or if your need was small, forgoing aid and becoming a full pay. Hope this is helpful! But in this case, no news is likely good news - they would have no reason not to post a rejection. It is much more likely that the lag has something to do with your aid offer. Judging by Princeton’s response - your chances of getting aid look very good!
