Financial Aid Help!!!

Hi guys,

I was recently accepted as a Transfer student and had a question regarding financial aid at Duke. In my admissions packet, the financial aid letter said I did not qualify for financial aid and only qualified for loans. So this means I'd have to pay nearly $55k (+ $7k in loans), which is just unfeasible for me and my family.

According to FAFSA and CSS Profile, my efc is around $11500 and according to Duke's net price calculator my efc (using the same data on the Profile) was around $5000 if I recall correctly (definitely under $8k). At my current school, I pay $12k a year. I emailed Duke FinAid today (saturday), so I hope to get a response from them on Monday and get this resolved. I just wanted to see if anybody has gone through a similar situation or has any advice. I feel like something may not have been submitted or reviewed on either end of this situation, but according to Duke FinAid when I called 2 weeks ago, I submitted all of my documents. I will say that on the Applicant SIS account it says I haven't submitted my Dad's 2012 Income Report, but this contradicts what the financial aid officer said.

Obviously I would simply love to attend Duke next year, but it would be foolish of me to transfer to a school where I would pay nearly the full price of attendance than to stay at my current school where I get a good financial aid package.

Thanks Guys!

I definatley think that htey will help you out.

I don’t know about your financial situation, but I was in a similar situation when I got accepted. My father ended up emailing the FinAid office and telling them how my family’s income was distorted because of some stocks and how he was an old man seeking to use the money for his retirement (lol), and they ended up giving us more money. So contacting them is definitely a good idea, and if they don’t reply to your email within the next few days, call them again, explain the EFC you received from their calculator, and re-verify that they have the Income Report. It can’t hurt to keep trying. Best of luck!

Awesome thanks for your support and advice!
