FINANCIAL AID HELP

I am an international applicant applying to top tier US schools. I have one younger sibling who is in tenth grade. My family income is roughly 150K per year, so I think it’s unlikely that I will receive financial aid if I apply for it.

However, my dad says that applying for FA now is still useful because it gives me the chance to apply again in two years (When my sister attends university, so my chances will be higher).

Many schools that I am applying to are not need blind for internationals, so I am reluctant to agree with my dad. We are both not very familiar with FA, so any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated

your dad is right. Many schools say that int’ls can’t apply for aid LATER if they don’t apply as incoming frosh. Your parents can’t afford to send two without aid, so you need to apply for aid now.

It shouldn’t hurt you too much, because your current finances indicate little/no need, so a school won’t toss your app. The person that would be hurt would be the low income one and schools see that he needs lots of aid.

You have to do what dad says, otherwise you could get in now, but then have to leave after your sibling goes to school.

Your dad is right for international students. In many cases, you must apply for financial aid when you apply for admission or you cannot apply in subsequent years.

@mom2collegekids and @thumper1 thank you for your feedback

Let’s say that I applied for aid, but didn’t get it. Would I still be eligible to apply in later years?
