Financial Aid help?

First of all, I transferred to UT last year and this will be my second year at UT. Last year I received about $10,000 for the whole year in grants with an EFC of 3400 (applied on March 30th last year).

This year my financial aid package just arrived and I didn't receive too much grants. I am only getting $6000 for the year. My EFC is 300. I applied on March 29th for financial aid. They didn't even give me Texas Public Education Grant. They also didn't give me partial tuition grant and university tuition grant this year. I received all of these last year. Can I call financial aid and ask? Would they give me more grants or is it not possible?

Also they also gave me $1800 in grants for this summer. But I am not doing summer school so is there any way that money can be transferred over to 2010-2011 school year?

And another thing, I am in Liberal Arts right now and will be transferring into McCombs this year so will my financial aid change when I switch my major to McCombs?

Thanks

$10,000 is A LOT for someone with an EFC 3400. Most people that I know with an EFC of 0 only got around $6,400 for a year. Anyways, have you been under review by the OSFS? If so, they may have gone through your FFSA more closely and awarded you less because of what you got last year.

UT is also cutting its budget and there are certain grants which will not be awarded or if they are, in a much smaller amount. Not sure about this but that’s what I’ve been hearing. If your transfer to McCombs it will not affect your financial aid but may affect scholarships.

Nooooo!! I just realized that I didn’t accept my financial aid before the deadline. Do you think I’ll have any trouble getting it reinstated?

@Sprintuser

possibly, just tell them you lost track of time

@Shane

it wont hurt to call and ask

@ sprintuser, I was not aware of any “deadline” to accept financial aid. As far as I know you keep the money and it can be used for later semesters/summer school.

I think there was a certain date that you were required to choose which financial aid you wanted. I didn’t even realize that the deadline was this early. It’s telling me to contact them to have it reinstated.

Can we please get back to answering my questions. I would really like to know what my situation is.

^ I answered it right below your questions to the best of my knowledge.
