I have received my award and LMU they are giving me about 35,000 and i would need to pay about 13,000 out of my pocket but I would have to live at home. I have changed my mind and I would like to live on campus. UCR and UCI are giving me about 20,000 and i would have to pay 10,000 out of my pocket but that is if I decide to live on campus. Would the aid be the similar if i let LMU know i would like to dorm or would I have to pay 13,000 and the cost of room and board? I need to pay 13,000 out of my pocket if i decide to live with my parents. I am thinking it would around the same range I decide to live on campus. I have already contacted the campus and I have updated my fafsa app.

What was your EFC?

LMU doesn’t promise to “meet need” and neither do the UCs.

Can you clarify…do you live close to LMU? If you go to UCI or UCR then you will have to commute, right?

I don’t think you’ll get more aid.

I don’t understand the “updating FAFSA” part. Do you put that you’ll be living on campus on FAFSA?

My EFC is zero.

I live about 30 mins away from LMU. For UCI and UCR i would have to dorm because they are a bit far.

Yes. When I submitted my FAFSA app I reported to FAFSA that I was going to live at home. I resubmitted my app as I was told to LMU and they said they would revise my app again as soon as I submit my app again but reporting I am going to live on campus.

You won’t know until they give you the revised package but I wouldn’t assume they’ll give you more grant money. Yes, your COA will go up if you’re on campus, but the school doesn’t agree to meet need and they could just increase your loans a bit and leave it at that. You’ll really need to wait for the new package.
