Financial Aid Important Question.

Hello CollegeConfidential Community,

I am a high school junior writing from India. I will be travelling to the US in the summer and was wanting to utilize it in the best possible way. Would you guys be so kind to guide me in the right direction as to which summer programs offer financial aid to international students? REALLY IMPORTANT! … Also, I don’t really care about getting into prestigious colleges but rather want to expose myself to the culture/ meet people but I’d be needing a little financial assistance.

Thank you so much for the help in advance!

How much is a little?

What summer programs have you researched so far?

Where in the US will you be traveling this summer?

How long will you be here?

Hey Madison thanks for responding. Yea thanks for asking!

  1. So the programs I checked mostly ranged from 5-11k for a 4-8 week summer program. I’m looking for around 50% but as I’ve seen, colleges in the US take your tax info. and if they do that, I would qualify for a full ride but since I am an international student, that’s where the trick comes in.

  2. I have looked into all the major colleges that offer summer programs and out of all of them the only college that offered partial aid to international students was Midddlebury College. Yes, I checked all the ivies, prestigious colleges but none of them offer aid so I’m a little unlucky there cause they’re out of question for me.

  3. I’ll be travelling to 3-4 different states.

  4. Approximately 3 weeks for the trip but if I get a summer program then I’ll come in a month or two earlier, attend that and then be with my family for the rest of the trip.

@Madison85 - Expecting some feedback from you  Thank you so much once again.

I was hoping more people would help you with some answers. Wow - $5-$11k for a 4-8 week summer program!

I have not heard of any that offer aid to internationals.

Even if there were such aid available, it’s a little hard to imagine how a student who can afford extended international travel over the summer would be able to demonstrate a need for financial assistance. If your goal is to expose yourself to culture and meet people while in the US, that can be done quite well without access to some pricey summer college program that few Americans can afford. In fact, confining yourself to a college campus may significantly limit your American experience. There are free or inexpensive cultural and educational events–museums, music festivals, etc.–in every American city all summer long. Just as American kids do in Europe, strap on a backpack, buy a bus pass and a travel guide and explore!
