So on some of my apps I put down one number wrong in my SSN. I put the correct number on my FAFSA but didnt change the one on some of my apps until recently. I have reveived financial aid packages from some schools but they were really terrible for the small income my family brings in. So I was wondering if that one mistake has to do with these bad packages I've gotten. Anything helps!

Pick up the phone. Call them, and ask.

Your social security number on your applications MUST match the one on your financial aid form or it is highly likely the school will NOT process your aid request.

My son did the same thing…he transposed two numbers on one application and therefore his social on the FAFSA (which was the correct one) didn’t match the one on the application. We would not have figured it out…except that a good friend got an awesome merit award from this school (a guaranteed one) and our DS had better stats than this kid. We called and they said that they had not processed ANY aid for our kid. When we further inquired as to why…they found that the SSN didn’t match up. We quickly made the correction…and he got the award.

You need to make this correction ASAP. Ahem…tomorrow is MAY 1…

Get to know your SSN. It is probably the most important number you have.
