I wish to know to what extent the overall cost of attending varies when a student works on campus. For instance , uiuc's annual cost is 44k ( incuding everything ) so , by working on campus , how much can i expect to earn.
In addition , are there any financial aid or scholarships given to international students ? If yes , please post the url.
PS - I got to some good engineering colleges but can't go because of financial factors.
Please help !!!!

Reply anyone ?

My son held a student job that paid around $10/hour and he worked about 10 hours a week. That was typical of the jobs at his university.

want to know too

$10/hour is what a lot of university jobs seem to pay. The rates are often set by the work study jobs. My son was a non workstudy employee at one of those jobs and he would have to wait until the work study kids got first pick. The jobs are also often there for those kids who have work study and then run out of their hours so that they continue on a work study basis. I do not know if international students are even eligible for these jobs.

There are usually places to work within and around a campus unaffiliated with at school, and again you need to check out what the requirements and restrictions are for you working, as an international student. You may need a social security number, for example. Minimum wage is what a lot of those jobs pay.

Then you can offer to tutor or baby sit for money under the table. Those jobs are free lance and depend upon the area.

As an international in the United States on a student visa, you are not permitted to work - “under the table” or otherwise!

And if you think you’ll be able to pay part of your tuition or living expenses by earning money here, think again. Unless your budget is fully covered before you apply for your student visa, your application won’t be granted.

If you want to know more about the financial aid available for international students, check the [international students](International Students - College Confidential Forums) forum. If anyone would know, they would.

I thought the amount of hours was significantly limited for work for international students (I could be wrong and it could be none).

Let’s put it this way…regardless, you are not going to be able to fund a $45k plus education. Plus you will not be able to use that unearned money on your verification of finances which is required to get your visa to study here.
