I was hoping a financial aid letter would be included in the admission packet (Yay! I'm accepted :D), but I guess we can expect it some time in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, I was wondering if any current ND students could give me an idea of what kind of financial aid I should expect. I am a QuestBridge Finalist with an EFC of $512.

Even if you can't guesstimate with my information, could someone share what their package was like?

I’m in the same situation as you, except my EFC is $0…any idea of the financial aid would be great help and reassurance…and the letter said that the packet included financial information…I’m a bit confused about that…

My D is currently a Sophmore at ND. From my personal experience ND has been fair with FA help. We had an EFC of 25,000 which leaves a remaining need of $25,000. She was given work study of $1000 per semester, about 5,000 in subsidized loans and the remainder in scholarship money. She declined the work study. ND has been a great place for her.

gymmom2007 Our situations is almost exactly the same as far as the EFC. When your daughter turned down the work study, what happens to that $1000? Are you as the parent just supposed to pick up that extra $1000 in whatever way you can?

No work, no pay - work study is just a job opportunity. Notre Dame doesn’t give you anything for work study, you work for it, paid by the hour, just like any job. At Notre Dame getting work study doesn’t mean much, since there are plenty of job opportunities on campus whether or not you are given work study.

4 years ago the packet also said it included financial info and did not. In my experience, they were the slowest school in getting out the f/a–all his other acceptances included it w/ the acceptance letter. I wish they could/would do that, b/c it drags out the decision making process for students who attendance is conditional on the f/a.

From what I have seen over the years with ~$0 EFC students, ND will expect student/parent contributions somewhere between $6000-10,000/yr and that will be allocated between work study and loans. I felt they were very fair with us, and his scholarships even were increased (with similar income) during his years there.

I just received my financial aid letter today and to be honest, it was a little bit worse than I expected. My EFC was about 28k and ND expects my parents to come up with 35k plus 6400 in loans and 2600 in work study. I hope other people have better luck than myself, but I was a little upset.

Got it today. Very generous. Of course I have to pay my full EFC, but very few loans for the COA. Generous scholarship and campus employment. With a couple scholarships I might be able to eliminate my loans. I can afford ND!!!

In the gap between have $ and get $, we were on the edge of our seats. We were bracing ourselves to settle for the state school.

The financial aid package we received today included a scholarship award above and beyond any expectations (they considered our “special circumstances” letter and gave much more than our EFC would indicate), and made ND nearly as affordable as SUNY.

I have to say that I finally get their “no merit-only” scholarship philosophy. If you have enough money (by somebody’s standards) to afford ND, then you aren’t considered for scholarship. If you have demonstrated need, then they determine how much scholarship money to give you, and from what scholarship fund, factoring in your academic achievements.

I called on 4/1. They told me they would be getting to it in around 2 weeks. I said that seemed like quite a long wait, but didn’t want to offend anyone. You never know who is making the aid decisions.

EA here and we still haven’t received anything. The financial aid office told us that they haven’t made a decision yet and they are reviewing them day by day. Maybe they are turning over every rock to find more money. ;)
