FINANCIAL AID letter

which number is the one we're gonna have to pay each year?

I was a bit confused by this as well. I would assume your “total resources” one? Help anybody?

what about the first set of numbers under “I. Grant, Scholarship & Federal Perkins Loan Eligibility”??

where do you see your financial aid?

The first set of numbers are the things we’ll be receiving, not paying.

aznjunior, there is a financial aid letter on the student site as well, just below the acceptance letter I believe.

yeah, you’re right. hmm…decent package hahah

Really? I got like $5000 (2 in grants, 3 in loans), and the rest was up to me. That’s not very much considering the school costs $60,000/year. What’d you get? Did you get a merit scholarship or something?

no i didnt apply for merit…****…probably should have!!! i got around 29,000 from uchicago sans loans

haha… I guess chicago was another one of the schools i forgot to apply for financial aid… so I can’t go even if I wanted

Wow! Congrats! Was there an extra merit scholarship application that I wasn’t aware of? (I feel really dumb right now if there was.) In my defense, financial aid was a mess trying to figure it out for all my different schools.

EDIT: I did the UChicago Financial Aid App, FAFSA, CSS, tax returns, and all of that… Did I miss something? :(

Ummm you cant apply for merit. lol It’s based off your SAT scores, GPA/class rank etc.

But its ridiculous that they would expect someone to take out close to 30k in loans each year. Unless you’re moving on to being a Pharmacist or Doctor ect you’ll be paying back those loans until later on in life.

Congrats on the acceptance!

^ That’s what I thought, but I was confused by wg90210’s comment. :stuck_out_tongue: Thank god.

Well, I do plan on medical school, but there’s no way to say that it’ll definitely happen. In any case, it’s probably worth the money.

Ugh! As of right now, WashU gave me a better package. This sucks. I hope my mom will still go for it, UChicago’s my first-choice…

sorry for the confusion! but when i applied on common app, there was a button to select about whether or not i wanted to be considered for merit aid. i checked no.

Question, are Chicago’s finaid packages fairly consistent from year to year (as long as your situation is the same)? I’m assuming they are, but just curious.

I applied for financial aid, and was admitted EA–but I cannot find the Aid letter anywhere on the website. Am I looking in the wrong place?

There should be a yellow bar at the top of your homepage, just like the decision letter.

I can’t find it too. I’m an international by the way.

Yeah, it’s definitely not there…that’s slightly concerning.
