Today I received a letter, dated March 24, informing me that I have missing financial aid documents. I'm very surprised by two things--1) that Penn (evidently?) informs people by snail mail as opposed to e-mail, and 2) that Penn is still notifying people as late as 6 days before decisions come out.

Should I read anything into this? Have many other applicants (or rather, other applicants missing documents) received this letter?

It just seems suspicious to me that, when the actual deadline for financial aid documents was February 1st, Penn would notify me nearly two months later. I'm not sure whether to think I'm likely to be accepted (after all, by now, surely they would know whether I'm an accepted student, and I don't think they'd waste postage to inform a rejected applicant of missing documents), or to think that Penn financial services have just waited a very, very long time before reviewing my documents.

Also, do you think I should wait until Wednesday before I send in the missing documents? It seems silly to spend several hours preparing the documents tonight, and then realize on Wednesday that I wasted my time because Penn rejected me.

I guess it’s sign of acceptance, too. However, no one would know the actual decision is, so i suggest to wait until Wednesday since there is no rush. I had a bad feeling that Upenn never applied my e-mail back, so i assumed that i was rejected !

Exodus, what parts of your finaid app were missing? …because I just realized today that I never sent my parent’s tax returns (although I did send the Penn FinAid supplement, CSS, and FAFSA)…and I didn’t get any snail mail notifying me of that if this means that I’m rejected, I’m really really sad

I also received the letter that was postmarked on the 24th. As much as I would want it to be a indication of admission, could it also mean being wait listed? Sorry to be pessimistic but I really don’t want to get my hopes up and then crushed again…

Hey that happened to me too. I forgot to turn in the pfas confirmation thing online and they sent me mail and I completed it that night. Wow this really makes me optimistic looking at your posts on this matter

@bluesweatshirt - I forgot to send in both the tax returns and the Penn financial aid supplement. However, it’s possible they only noticed b/c I didn’t have the Penn financial aid supplement in. I wouldn’t read too much into not receiving a letter about that, especially because I believe Penn also receives the tax information from the CollegeBoard.

@panserver2 - Haha You’re being optimistic by thinking that it’s even a wait-list. I still think rejection is very possible; my profile doesn’t seem to fit the typical Wharton admit at all.

I also received the letter on the 24th…and although i do not want to get my hopes up it is possible that it is a sign of acceptance since there’s no point in sending someone a letter requesting financial aid stuff if they are not being accepted.

You have been accepted to Penn. Last year, after having been deferred from ED, I revived a letter regarding financial aid similar to the one you have described a week or so before the regular decision date. And a few days later I was accepted! If it says Class of 2015 it is an especially good sign!

Wait, did you guys already turn in all the financial aid information and they still sent it, or did you just not turn in some of the necessary info?

I got this letter too – actually twice. The first was dated the 17th with two items missing and the 2nd was dated the 24th with two items missing as well (although one of the items was different for the 2nd time…). I’m only going to contact them after I’m admitted…which will hopefuly happen in 37 minutes!!!

you guys are so lucky. I know I have missing fin aid documents lol, but have not gotten any notifications. Guess they’ve already thrown me out of the pool…
