Financial Aid Missing Documents Notification

Today I received a letter, dated March 9th, from Penn Student Financial Services informing me that I have missing financial aid documents.

Should I read anything into this? It seems odd that Penn would notify me this soon to when decisions are released. I’m not sure whether this is an indication that I’m likely to be accepted or if Student Financial Services has just gotten to my financial aid documents now.

Is it worth completing the documents tonight or waiting until decisions are released? I don’t want to waste my time with the documents if Penn rejects me.

Consider how much the potential cost of you sending in the documents is: maybe an hour of your time, at the most? (Assuming that we’re talking about something like a tax return that has already been filed, but not uploaded.)

Now, consider how much you would lose if you were accepted, but received no financial aid (or worse, had to compare Penn with other schools without knowing how much financial aid you would be provided), and then think about whether or not it’s worth it to upload the documents.

After all the time that you must have undoubtedly put in the application, it seems wasteful to not complete the very last steps.

As for reading into it, I would recommend that you not. I believe that they merely wanted to ensure that everything was on file if they do decide to admit you.

Thanks for the advice @Tiberium! I’m just about to upload my missing documents.

I received the same letter and when found this thread on CC: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/1113085-financial-aid-missing-documents-notification-now.html. Does this mean we’re going to be accepted?

It looks like that could be a possibility! Has anyone else on CC received a letter like this? Fingers crossed for us @hannahmliu!

@collegebound722‌ @hannahmliu‌ : was the letter an email or snail mail?

im guessing this means I got rejected…sigh…

@RunningForLife‌ maybe you didn’t get the letter because you sent all the documents they required without having to be asked for documents you forgot to send. Don’t assume you got rejected.

@Lkjh0987‌ : I never turned in my Penn Financial Aid Supplement (only the CSS and the FAFSA)…

I gave in my CSS to penn quite late, could that be a possible reason?

My letter was by snail mail. @RunningforLife

@collegebound722‌ : what were you missing? also, when did you turn in your CSS and FAFSA? Thanks!

@RunningforLife I was missing the Penn financial aid supplement and my parent’s tax returns. I turned in the CSS and FAFSA in February.

@collegebound722‌ : did you submit your CSS and FAFSA on time? (sorry for asking so much I’m just really scared)

I was admitted to Penn through Early Decision, and I received a missing documents email from the financial aid office. I received the email about one week before decisions came out. It wouldn’t make sense for them to send that to a student that wasn’t admitted. So, if you got an email, as in my case, I’d say you’re in! But don’t worry if you didn’t get one! That just means you’re responsible and didn’t forget any papers

@RunningForLife Yes, they were on time.

@LatinBrain Congratulations on your acceptance and thank you for the input!

I received the letter and was admitted today RD

@hannahmliu I did as well! Congrats!

Congrats! The FA document hassle is worthy.
