Financial Aid News on M10

Would FA information/contract be released on M10 along with decisions? Also, is there a possibility that schools will give more financial aid than the amount our families propose to “pay for educational expenses for this student in 2023-2024”? If not, how well does the negotiation of FA often go? Just one more day… good luck everyone!

Usually, FA info is released with the decision. It may be more generous than you expected or it may be less.

If you feel that your financial situation was misunderstood, you can go back to explain and request more. You may or may not be successful, particularly if you and the school do not agree on what are necessities for your family and what "sacrifices " you may need to make.

You are so close to getting this information that there is little point in planning a "negotiation " now. Good luck tomorrow!

Would Faid be in the package or on the portal with the acceptance announcement?

It will always be online. Whether or not the contract is included in your package depends on the school.

Yes.

It will be included with the contract information. When you make your decision to go to a school that has accepted you (deadline A10?), you will have to commit to a payment plan for tuition, so your share based on FA will be included in the contract.

They will not award you more than you have asked for, at least not in need based FA. If you claim in your FA forms that you’d be willing to pay $40K, they’ll take your word for it so long as your FA application indicates that your fair share is <=$40K.

If things have changed since your application (loss of income due to layoff injury or death), that would be a very good reason to appeal.

If the FA package is less generous than you expected, and you have reason to believe that your family’s circumstances weren’t fully taken into account, you might consider appealing.

I mentioned it the other day, but I’ll add it again here:
be aware that you might have to click a button that feels like you are accepting the offer in order to see the merit/FA info. It might be something like “accept the contract” or “view offer” – do NOT worry that you will accidentally accept the full offer by clicking one button. The key is you need to get to the contract, which is where the scholarship details will usually be.
There are SOME schools that send scholarship/FA/merit info separately. So if you can’t find the info, it’s a great idea to post here because someone else might be able to help you determine if you are truly missing the info or you just aren’t clicking the right place.
