Financial Aid- Non Resident

I had a few questions about financial aid for University of Michigan.

First I've noticed that in my summary I've received X amount of dollars and that they're evenly split between fall and winter terms, so do I have to pay for the spring term out of my pocket? How am I not receiving anything for spring term?

Secondly what is the minimum requirement to become an in-state resident of Michigan? I will apply through the University's website but is applying through the University and applying through the state different?

Fall and Winter are the 2 semesters that make up the standard academic year. Fall = Sept - Dec and Winter = Jan - April.

I am no expert on non-resident to resident, but it is my understanding that it is very difficult to gain in-state status unless basically your parents become residents of Michigan. I don’t understand the end of your question…

You really can’t. It’s not like UC schools, where living in California for a year entitles you to instate tuition. At Umich, you have to rough it out for four years.
