I just checked on the financial aid page, and.... I got $20,600 for the first year :). I'll make up the other ~$4,000 through scholarships. I'm so happy right now because UT is my #1 school. Hook 'Em :P

Me too I was so beyond happy after i checked my finaid package i got $23,400 so no loans for me:D

I am also currently happy with what they offered me. I just received it today around 1 PM a total of $20,600 in grants and scholarships, and $2,800 in work study, I had about $2800 in loans offered but I rejected them.

I recieved $22,000! No loans or work study!

Does anyone know how much tuition is for McCombs?

I didn’t have any loans or work-study either. It was all scholarships and grants. Sadly, I didn’t get the PAS, but I did get the LOS one. The other ~$4000 should he easy to come up with.

Business is up there with engineering, so around $9,400 if I remember correctly.

I also received the LOS

Why did you reject loans? Is it Perkins? If it is Perkins it’s 5%, subsidized. Great deal!

20,600 will cover tuition, books and room/board (at least shared with community bath, it is only 8,714) in full. You’ll most likely have some money left. 2,800 work study is your living expenses (clothes, detergent etc) and transportation if any (is bus free with student ID?).
Loans are your “emergency money”. You will not even need them but you’ll have access to them if necessary.

Are you guys in state or out of state?

In stateee

Congrats on all the financial awards!

May I ask is your EFC=0? I assume these are need-based financial aids?

yes it was but i rejected it because my mother told me not to accept them even though i agree it was a good deal but hopefully i receive other scholarships t make up the cost.

By the way my EFC was 0 and i’m in state

I checked the My Financial Aid part and nothing new was there besides the PAS then i went on my history and found out i have 20,600. Will be i notified soon? And is that through email or…?

I am a “foreign” parent, I never went to university in USA so I might be mistaken.

But I am under impression that you can get scholarships that cover your tuition, books, housing and other EDUCATIONAL expenses. They are ALL covered by 20,600.
20,600 is even more that cost of 15hrs flat tuition (you have to have 15, not 12 for Top 10% scholarship eligibility if you got it) + not the fanciest and most expensive housing and books.

You will be able actually to save some money from this amount if you choose the cheapest housing (3-4 people in the dorm room is even cheaper than 8,714, something outside campus can be cheaper, I am not very familiar with these apartment options but I heard they could be cheaper) and buy used books on Amazon instead of co-op, or rent books instead of buying them.

The rest of the money is for your LIVING expenses and transportation, whatever it means.

I have never ever heard about any scholarships that covered living expenses. Some third party scholarships can cover additional educational expenses like summer classes, study abroad etc. There is also something called stipend for living expenses, for example ROTC has it. But it is not scholarship, it is stipend.

I have huge doubt that you’ll be able very easily to find additional scholarship money to replace these loans. And of all types of federal loans Perkins is the best. Stafford has 6.8% interest, if it is subsidized you don’t pay interest while studying, and I don’t remember, I believe they cancelled grace period this year. Perkins has 5%, it is subsidized and it still has grace period of 9 months before you have to start paying interest. The better option that Perkins is only B-On Time Loan. If you are lucky to get it instead of Perkins accept it immediately.

You were lucky to get your very generous finaid package very early. Later on the money will start running out and your finaid might be worse.

Also, find some summer job. 2,800 WS is not much.

I know a couple of kids in your situation. They visit family in Houston only when they find a free ride because they don’t have money to buy a bus ticket for $45 roundtrip and they don’t want to use loan money for that.

I just received mine. I got $25418. I’m in-state and UT received my fafsa on march 6.

Does anyone know for sure or has documentation stating whether or not there is a deadline for accepting the financial aid package/loans, etc? For instance if I wait for a month before accepting (which of course I won’t be doing unless something seriously goes wrong) is there a chance that the money will be offered to someone else?

So relieved though! After reading all those posts about how UT Austin does not provide much financially, I was worried about whether or not I would be able to attend UT Austin. But now I am happy to see my costs are covered.
And to prospective students only one of them stated it was specifically for academics (top 10%) so if you have a financial need and applied in a timely manner, you’ll most likely be covered :]

Oh and -instate-

Ah never mind, regarding the ‘being covered’, if what Ya Ya said is true about us just being quick&lucky. :o
How fast/soon does the financial aid amounts usually start dropping, do you know?

These may be stupid questions, but the transportation estimate does it only hold true if you have a car on campus and have to pay for parking because aren’t shuttles free? Also, miscellaneous can include just like day to day living like food, clothing, spending money right?
I just wanted to know so I could allocate my financial aid better.

blueabby24

UT website says that dorm prices “include Room, Meals, basic ResNet and applicable sales tax. Each student will receive $1,400 Dine In Dollars which can be spent in DHFS operated locations and $300 Bevo Bucks which can be used at any participating location.”

About meals. The most important thing is to figure out how to eat in the right places in the right time and don’t go over limit because you messed up simply with eating locations. You need to make search about Bevo Bucks and DineInDollars. It was discussed several times.

I know this thread is a bit old, but if you guys don’t mind illuminating me a bit.

UT Austin has been my #1 choice ever since freshman year. I just recently got accepted into the class of 2017 and was wondering what the cirumstances where for all the aid? As in was it merit based? Financial need? Did most of the aid consist of 3rd party scholarships? Etc

I’m just freaking out a bit since my parents definately can’t afford it out of pocket.

Whenever I try to see my financial aid info i get this

“The CASH system and its services require that you have an upgraded University of Texas Electronic Identification (UT EID) in order to update information. You have not upgraded your UT EID.”

What should I do?
