Financial Aid Notification

Has anyone else not received any information about need based financial aid? I got a presidential scholarship, but nothing in my acceptance packet or on the portal says anything about need based aid. I thought that even if you didn't get any it would say something about it, am I wrong?

I would have to say GW absolutely does the poorest job of informing their applicants of any college my D applied to. That alone is a strike against them with respect to our acceptance decision.

You have to log into GWEB to access your financial aid award. This is not made clear at all by GW - just to find that information you need to dig into their website.

The student must have an GW ID assigned to them

You log in using the student’s birthdate as the initial PIN, then you select a new one. (you have to click on HELP to get that information - again another hidden nugget that GW makes it hard for you to find)

Then after a few more clicks you are able to (hopefully) find the financial aid award (go to Award History)

Good luck.

Couldn’t agree more. We never received a notification email that the fin. aid award was up online. From reading other threads it seems others are waiting for the award letter in the mail. GW told me that it would not be sent in the mail.

the same thing has happened to me, except i still have not received an award. i’ve accessed the gw site and it just said that nothing is available. Has anyone else not received their award either online/email/ in the mail? I feel like there is something wrong, but I called them last week and said everything was in so…

Just to make it clear for people:

1) Make sure you have a GWID (I don’t know how my daughter got hers)
2) Go to this link:
<a href=“Banner Secured Area”>https://banweb.gwu.edu/PRODCartridge/twbkwbis.P_GenMenu?name=bmenu.P_FinAidMainMnu</a></p>

3) For first-time login click on the HELP link on that page to see the format of the pre-set PIN (based on the student’s birthdate). You then have to select a new PIN.
4) Once logged in click on “Financial Aid Menu”

To check the status of all the materials you need to submit:
5) Click on Eligibility
6) After “Select Aid Year” you must select “2012-2013…” and then Submit
7) Review all of your Completed Requirements and Outstanding Requirements. I was informed that Appeals will not be heard until all tax forms are faxed in and reviewed. (I have faxed mine in but am waiting for them to be reviewed)

To review your financial aid award:
8) Click on the “Financial Aid” tab at the top of the screen (same function as the Financial Aid menu in step (4)
9) Click on My Award Information
10) Click on Award History. This is where you find your financial aid award (if any)

I hope this helps some people that are having trouble.

thanks I just talked to a counselor there and because my correction was sent in the last week of march I’m not allowed to hear my financial aid til at least 2 and a half weeks after all of my documents were in…great. I submitted my fafsa in like january but because of special circumstances with my family’s business we couldn’t get our 2011 returns done until the end of march, lovely.

Anyone know how to view finaid without committing to the university?

Did you follow the directions I posted above?

there is no “financial aid menu”— on my gw web thing… ive done the gwid and renewed my password
