financial aid office emailed me?

yeah, i was wondering about that…

I dont think Columbia would be that dumb to blatantly let people know who got accepted/rejected through tax-return forms. I think they just didn’t get the e-mail or something. That’s just ME being pessimistic. I did receive that e-mail though so hopefully…

I thought the financial aid office and the admissions office were seperate…and it was the FA office that sent the emails. I don’t think the FAO is supposed to know anything about the students’ acceptance status…so that basically means everyone whose missing a document gets an email before decisions come out.

Sorry for getting everyone pessimistic again…

Yeah, us NYC kids are crazy about Columbia. I don’t know if her numbers were correct though. She probably over exaggerated.

It’s not just NYC kids! I’m crazy about it too!

Anyone know if Knox is good? I don’t know much about it but my friend just got accepted EA with a huge FA package:) Probably digressing…

Haven’t heard anything from FAO at all… does this mean anything bad? my online FA file status states that it’s not complete…

What are you missing? Documents labelled Disbursement are not required until next year.
I’m missing CSS/PROFILE. Hope I’m not alone.

My guess: if you got an email about missing CSS/PROFILE, that means you could not get FA. You may be accepted (:

@Katy3028

missing my parents’ tax return… that’s for packaging… emailed FAO a week ago, no response…

Guys, new thought: maybe those of us who received an email should be excited because, although it was the FAO instead of the admissions office who emailed us, there has to be communication between the two. Think about this: the office only has so many dollars in their endowment fund. Were they to create financial packages for all 2500 early decision applicants, they would grossly overshoot their allotted funds. Therefore, they are most likely not interested in all the extra legwork and recalculation that would accompany that option. So maybe, those who received emails have a heads up as to their admissions status, since the FAO is going to do a whole bunch of extra work to create financial aid packages for them. Just food for thought. I choose to be optimistic. :)

Also, I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but Columbia is fairly liberal and located in a pretty democratic area. It’s just a rumor though. So maybe they would go for the whole environmentalist perspective and only collect paper documents that they actually need as they probably don’t support the massive slaughter of trees required to print so many dull tax returns. ;)

the email i received was kind of generic…it doesn’t hint that they’ve created a package for me already
“you don’t have anything missing. you can track it now. create a pin.”

does it cost them $ to send emails…?

BUT thanks for the optimism!!! :)

No I wasn’t suggesting it costs money for them to send emails, but rather they need to deal with the money they have and only apply it to the applicants whom they intend to receive.

Plus, I consider it a good sign that maybe only 30 or less people have posted on this thread, so obviously not EVERYONE received one. And I would wager that barely anybody knew about that weird non-filer certification thing.

I AM SO EXCITEDDD! :)

I haven’t gotten a series of emails…just one email saying they didn’t have my student tax form. and then i got the letter today, which was basically the same thing. I faxed it in yesterday and so my FA status is complete…but i’m nervous because they haven’t really been harassing me as it seems they have for some ppl on this thread.

@ bigApple46: I think my mom sent in my waiver request and then came the final two of the series of emails

@ supernova. I think you have a point.
The FAO wouldn’t want to do calculations for a bunch of people who aren’t going to go to the school. It would not be economically efficient if they did that since they would also have to pay workers to do all those calculations. Since the notification about missing documents was relatively late, it could entirely be possible that the admissions office made its decisions and told FAO who to calculate

^Well… is this the e-mail everyone is talking about??:

Is this what everyone’s talking about? It’s the only e-mail I received…

@ NWdivisionCHAMPS: Yeah it is the one we are talking about. Once you send in your student previous year tax return, then you will get another saying Columbia got it and then you will later get one saying that your financial aid documentation is complete

Eh!? I sent in my student previous tax waiver instead of a form (cause i dont have one). i didnt get an email of confirmation or anything thoughhhhhhhhhh =[

did you snail mail or fax it? I faxed it and it still took a day or two for them to send the confirmation email…

I really really hope that the email means something… but at this point, I’m wishing on eyelashes and 11:11, so anything goes.

NWdivsionCHAMPS…I’m in the same boat. I faxed it in on saturday…and when i sign in, it says that the waivor has been recieved. but i never got the confirmation emails. Do you get FA calculation along with you decision letter?
