Financial Aid Package up on CheckMarq

Financial Aid Package up on CheckMarq. We didn't get anything besides the $14,000 Ignatius Scholarship. Cost of Attendance is $43,568.

Thanks for the heads up! Do you know if all of the scholarship competitions have been graded and posted to the financial aid accounts? We haven’t received a letter yet (either yea or nay) regarding the results of the testing day our S attended.

Son received letter today informing him that he did not receive the Pere Marquette scholarship.

Will we get a hard copy letter informing us of financial package, or is it only accessible by Checkmarq?

From what I understand the financial aid package will only be posted to CheckMarq and not through US mail.

Marquette has me taking out about $30,000 in loans for the first year. :D

Time to cross that off the list…

^^Montegut,

I think I read somewhere your S is an engineering admit?..My S is also engineering!

We are from outside the area but we trekked up there for the scholarship competition and the Open House. They said there was a record high number of students competing for the engineering scholarship/test this year–it was probably the same case for the Pere Marquette scholarship :(

i was pretty surprised at how much marquette gave me. i expected more because loyola chicago gave me twice as much as marquette did. is it possible to appeal for more. i dont want to take loans, but the financial aid and the money my parents have saved will cover all but about $4000. is it possible that they would give me more?

did anyone get more than their scholarship?

Wait, are you guys able to see your whole award? We only got the letter saying son did not get the Pere Marquette. I do not know how to use Checkmarq, but I guess it’s time to learn!

Montegut the letter you got is for Scholarship only. You need to log into Checkmarq to view fin aid. Go to Marquette site then select current students and you’ll see the link to Checkmarq. To login you need to use the Username & Password they sent once they got your son’s app. Note that it is case sensitive so make sure you use upper or lower case! D’s fin aid was Ignat/Magis $12,900 / Grants $8,900 / work-study $1,500. Total is $23,300.00 rest is low interest loans for D and a $14,000.00 parent loan.

so i probably can’t see my financial aid on checkmarq because i have not sent in my signed W2 yet, right???

I would call fin. aid office for that. But you should send the W2 ASAP!!

Cannot find a username and password. Will call IT to see if they can resend it.

cross0328, I asked about improving the scholarship award (as opposed to the financial aid package, which this thread is really about) and was told NO. The Ignatius/Magis that you were awarded a couple weeks ago will not be improved upon. You can ask for a better financial aid package but it is very rarely changed and only due to “special circumstances” such as sudden job loss, death in family, etc.

Just viewed our student’s profoundly disappointing FA offer from Marquette. Nothing but loans beyond the $12,000 Ignatius scholarship award. Not do-able at all.

Don’t give up hope on your financial aid just yet. Here is what Marquette is posting on Facebook this morning:

(Leah Strong) Hey everyone,
Just got word at the morning staff meeting that the financial aid packages out on Checkmarq are not finalized. They could change still. When you receive your email, notifying you that your package is ready, then you’ll know it’s absolutely finalized. Sorry for any confusion!!

Very informative Facebook link that someone posted yesterday:
[Marquette University Class of 2014: Real Students, Real Answers | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook)

thanks illinialum very helpful

What a mess. I am not optimistic that if the offer changes, it will be enough of a change to make a difference. Our student is being encouraged to focus on Plan B.

whatever4, I feel your pain. If it’s any consolation, your kid nearly topped out on Ignatius/Magis money. I’d be thrilled with 12k.

As for financial aid, that is based largely on your EFC and if it ain’t low, there’ll be nothing but unsubsidized loans and work study. And your wallet.

beastman, i was only talking about the financial aid package. i talked to my counsler and she said i should go ahead and talk to them because i might as well.
