Financial Aid Package

I was just curious how much are you guys getting from pell grant and state uni grant. The financial package I got from CPP is complete garbage compared to people going to UCs. What the heck. I only got 11k. That means I need to pay 7k for my attendance at that school. Whereas my friend is going to UC Irvine and only needs to take out 3k in loans. I am mind blown…

BTW, how do i know if i qualify for work study?

11k should cover your tuition completely unless you’re out of state. Tuition + full price books for the whole year should be about ~8k. ([Tuition and Costs | Future Students | Cal Poly Pomona](http://cpp4me.csupomona.edu/cost-resources/tuition-costs.html)) Maximum Pell Grant is $5,645 and I think the maximum state university grant is about the same as well.

So 11k-8k=3k. Tuition and books are covered and that leaves you with $3,000. However, you still need to eat and sleep somewhere. Financial aid isn’t meant to cover ALL of your living expenses, there’s a finite amount of money and there are a lot of students. This is where part time jobs and loans come in.

Out of curiosity, are you a FTF or transfer student?

I kinda expected it to cover most of my cost of attendance including part of my housing expenses. I have seen the financial aids that people get and for a cal state, 11k is on the low end. Even my cousin that is attending Cal Poly SLO is only taking out 5k in loans and he lives on campus. Another example is my sister who is taking out 3k loans and she lives on campus at Santa Cruz. I just don’t see how I have to pay more to attend a college that doesnt measure up to Cal Poly SLO or UC Irvine. :[

Dunno dude. Ask to see their financial aid packages to see the differences in what they got.

They probably got additional grants or scholarships. Or maybe they have jobs. Or maybe they’ve been saving up their piggy bank money.

Either way, coming onto the CPP board and whining about how the school doesn’t compare to SLO or UCI is kind of rude. If you don’t want to go here you don’t have to.

Can’t ignore the truth. It is what it is.

Does anyone know cal poly pomonas financial aid office email address if they have one?

Panda,

Regardless of “it” being what “it” is…you made ur bed now sleep in it. Obivously you had the opportunity to attend irvine or slo but didnt make the cut. I am in the same boat but I am happy just to be attending CPP. I know people from San Jose State that are Vice Presidents at Hewlitt-Packard and people of SLO that are employed in feeble buyer positions. “It” is what you make it dude.

You’re lucky.

I have to take out loans and work 20 hours a week just to make it work because I do not get any pell or state university grants. I am taking 5 classes per quarter to graduate on time. The only reason I can even attend CPP is because my dad is a disabled veteran.

Go to community college if you’re unsatisfied and get out of here with your elitist attitude.

Be thankful for what you got, I received nothing for financial aid except a $5000 dollar loan which is pointless with all the interest added up. What ****es me off is people with $0 Family Contribution gets all the money while my parents who had about $25000 family contribution gets nothing. In addition to that my brother goes to UCR and he also gets nothing. In this country i guess it’s the middleclass that has to do all the work.
