Financial aid Package

I’m looking to transfer to a different college in the spring of 2016. I talked to the financial aid at Umass and they told me if I were to transfer in the spring that they cant guarantee me the best financial aid package. I’m just curious would I have the same problem if I try and transfer to any college?

Possibly.

Schools award their financial aid for the entire school year, and also award SEOG and Work Study for the year. They might not have any funds left for spring. On the other hand, they might have some and have fewer students applying for it. You just have to apply and see.

Don’t cut ties with your current school until you see the aid pkg at the new school. So register for classes at your current school for spring, and if the pkg is good, then complete the transfer.

What aid did you get at your current school?

Other thread indicates that this student’s parents were denied a PLUS loan…so he got an additional $4000 in Direct Loans. But he still is short on funds.

To the OP…

You need to find an affordable college. Is there a place to which you can commute…instate for you?

have you already started school for fall? If not, don’t go. You can’t afford that school.

@Lovex1921, Are you in school now? The best aid goes to freshmen so if your parents can’t afford the school you accepted admission to, take a gap year and find an affordable school. If you’re a freshman, you can still probably withdraw from the college (you’d lose your deposits) but you could apply someplace else for next year as a freshman.
